An Outlander Prequel is COMING.. Here's Everything We Know!

Welcome back to Scene Spotlight, today on the channel we are going to talk about Outlander prequels in the works, what we know so far. After yet another long Droughtlander, fans of Starz's Outlander are finally having their patience rewarded. Season 6 has already premiered, and the show has been renewed for a bumper-length seventh season, which should begin filming this year for a 2023 premiere date. And that's not all. An Outlander prequel series is on the way. This has been rumored for some time, but was only confirmed in February of 2022. Per Deadline, Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts will return to write and executive produce the prequel series. Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis will also return as executive producers.

Although the new show is sure to be shrouded in mystery for some time, we do have some sense of what the plot might involve. As fans of Diana Gabaldon's original book series will know, there are a huge number of novellas and short stories that complement the Outlander novels—but only one of them is a prequel. That's Virgins, a novella which follows a 19-year-old Jamie Fraser as mercenaries in 18th century France. But Gabaldon did reveal in February that in addition to starting work on the tenth (and potentially final) Outlander novel, she's also in the very early stages of a prequel book. In a Facebook post, she revealed that it will focus on Ellen MacKenzie, Jamie Fraser's mother, suggesting that it'll be set well before Virgins. It's not clear whether the prequel series will also center on Ellen, but it's easy to imagine a show that begins with her upbringing in the Scottish Highlands, and chronicles her courtship with Brian Fraser, and the birth of Jamie and her other children. Fans will just have to watch this space.

I'll take anything I get. Outlander is a miracle in TV series land. It's life altering. It made so many people happy. It's brought great actors' talents to highs. No show has ever had the worldwide impact of Outlander. I just pray the show continues for years to come with spin-offs and definitely more seasons.

If they base it on Diana Gabaldon’s books, there are books before and between the main books as well as a separate bunch of stories featuring Lord John. I’d like to see something about Master Raymon, Jamie’s parents, Dougal, Colum, Jocasta and Murtaugh. What about bringing in a history of young Blackjack Randall too.

I wish she would write book 10 instead of publishing every 5 yrs. Some of us want to be alive to see how the series ends before she starts on prequels. I wonder if she ever intends to write the last book and let us know what happens. Her books are great but she needs a better editor. They don't need to be so long and with filler about characters we barely know, or fifty pages of Claire's herbal remedies. We are familiar with what she does by now.

I would love to see a series that is focused on Master Raymond or Lord John. There are several standalone books about Lord John, so there's lots of material. Something else on Geillie might also be interesting. Roger's father's accidental time travel may also be interesting.

I hope is the story of Roger's dad!! He traveled through the stones too and Roger tried to make him come back to his time, but we did not know what happened (at least I didn't). I just a guess, but It will be so cool!

Most likely, it's about Lord John Grey. He has an entire book series. Another possibility is Gellis, Dougal, and the French gold.

I am already so excited. Still trying to get my hands on all of Diana Gabaldon books. But Ill take anything i can get my hands on! She has such an amazing way of writing characters. & there is so many I would love to see more about.

I hope it is about Claire’s uncle and her traveling from the 1700s to the future. I believe Claire and her uncle are from the past.
