I've worked for oil companies over the years DO NOT buy gas while the transport is filling the gas tanks there is dead storage in the large gas tanks when the truck is unloading gas it stirs up the the gas and until is has a chance to settle down you will be picking it up in the gas pumps

I was a mechanic decades ago building dune bugs, muscle cars and riding dirtbike to road bikes. With all the new technology, channels like yours are priceless! Especially explaining in common terms to non mech folk. Keep it up Scotty.👍

Years ago I had a 1956 Chevy that started acting up after a tank of gas. Luckily the 1956 Chevy has a drain plug at the bottom of the gas tank! Water is more dense than gasoline so when I removed the drain plug, 1 gallon of water came flowing out before any gas drained!!

My daughter has a Lexus es350. One day she came by and said her check engine light just came on. She had just stopped for gas. I checked the gas cap and it was loose. I tightened the cap, cleared the DTCs and the CEL has never come back.

Alot of people do not know that only two grades of gas are delivered to a station: high or low octane. The mid-grade you pump is site blended as it is being pumped. That doesn't make bad, but it does make it a mystery: what *is* going in the tank anyway?

I can confirm that bad gas can be a problem. We have a 2004 Doge Caravan and is started acting up. Not real bad but enough you knew something wasn't right. This went on for quite some time, but long story short, after changing out a sensor and still having the same problem, we eventually figured it must be the gas. We stopped buying Wal Mart gas and we never had that problem ever again.

Burn 91 octane which is Shell V Power in my 2004 Toyota Rav 4. Runs great! No issues.

I deliver gasoline to stations, bad gas is also the reason you want to primarily buy from BRANDED (Phillips 66, BP, Marathon, ect) stations! I've delivered bad gas twice, and one time we had a bad load from Philips 66, THEY had to pay for all the repairs. A small, unknown, unbranded site may not have the money or proper insurance to fix your car!

I had really bad gas a couple times from different stations back in the mid 80s. The gas from both stations had the same symptoms. If my car was cold I'd have to pump the gas peddle once to set the choke, start the car and let it run at high idle, If I kicked it down it wouldn't stay running when I tried to put it in gear. I'd then have to put it in gear while still running at high idle and go and not stop until my engine was totally up to operating temp or it would stall and would keep stalling every time I restarted it and tried to put it in gear so I'd have to sit and let it idle until the engine warmed up completely. Then once I got where I was going and parked with the engine fully up to temp, when I shut the car off it would diesel for several minutes and even trying to put it in gear wouldn't stop the engine. Thankfully this was when I was a college student so I could never afford to put in more than $5 worth at a time and that would buy just under 5 gallons but if my car was doing this and I added different gas right away it would still have these problems. I'd have to just run it until I burned up most of the bad gas before I bought more fuel and that would fix it. It was brand name gas too, Chevron.

Scotty you, Sir, are a national treasure and a true American Hero. God Bless You. I don't know what we're all going to do whenever you decide to call it a day and spend all your time as a man of leisure.

My Father made it VERY clear from an early age that he expected me to be able to handle basic car problems (as well as basic maintenance) like a dead battery or a flat tire when I started driving. Between him and boy scouts I was well prepared. However, A LOT 9f people overlook things like having a coat in the trunk for cold/foul weather and perhaps most importantly a basic first aid kit.

All gas comes from a hand full of refineries, pumped around the country in massive underground pipes . The problems will occur at stations that have issues with their storage tanks . Just go to the newest stations and your chance of getting uncontaminated gas will be the greatest .

You are absolutely right! I had this happen to me: bad gas cap, replaced it, & everything was dandy again. I also experienced bad gas and also got gas from a station that needed to replace their underground tanks which was putting sediments into my tank…got that fixed… lesson learned is know
your gas stations with their updates.

Ironic, that a Murphys gas station this week swaped the diesel and gas ...300 vehicles had to be towed!!

Think I missed it... What gasoline will destroy my car? How do I avoid buying bad gas?

Money was getting tight, so I filled up with 87 octane in my '07 Lexus ES350, and sure as 💩my VSC light comes on. Ran it out and filled with 91 octane (recommended) and light goes off within 10 minutes of driving. I was extremely happy and amazed. Thanks for confirming my hunch, Scotty!

$2.82 a gallon? Dang! I'm paying $4.24 a gallon. Some folks have all the luck...but you are rught about the gas cap. Thank you Scotty! Love your videos!
