I’ve been running e85 in my 2009 civic si for years now no modifications has been made no tune and it runs great. Spark plugs looks good, fuel lines aren’t deteriorating and fuel pump still pumping as it should. Engine internals shows normal wear, valves are really clean. The people that say you can’t run e85 in a non flex fuel car has never tried or too afraid to experiment.

It's great for forced induction guys. They can crank up the boost
Way more octane than 93.

Engines running ethanol need the appropriate rubber composites for their seals etc. The Model A & T Ford were designed specifically to be able to run on 'Moonshine' all those years ago - until the Rockefeller petroleum family funded the prohibition era which made distillation illegal and made making fuel out of spoiled food illegal...

Something to note, vehicles made after 2001 have the updated rubber products to run flex fuel. Probably not the other stuff, though.

Alot of new cars sold today already come with ethanol safe fuel pumps, lines, etc. The reason being the fuel we get nowadays in America has ethanol in it to make it more stable. Manufacturers had to adjust their OEM equipment for that.

Flashing for E85 to gain more power is actually a good idea but is expensive. You need a larger fuel pump and injectors because e85 has less energy per volume than 93 octane. You need an ethanol content sensor to map out how much ethanol is in the gasoline and self adjust the tune for it. Lastly you need to dyno the car to dial in the additional timing advance that using an alchohol fuel will let you run. That's where the power comes from... a more aggressive timing curve due to reduced detonation from the alchohol based fuel.

I run e85 in my car and make probably 200HP over stock with higher boost and additional mods. However my fuel economy did take a hit by about 30%. But e85 near me costs 2.25 a gallon and good 93 octane is around 3.45 a gallon. So it balances itself out.

2016 mustang gt, flex tune, upgraded injectors, been running "e85" for almost 3 years, no issues so far. Occasionally run 91 (az). Been worth it for me.

Excellent advice. Buying local is more important than most people think.

I had a flex fuel car and when I ran E85 my fuel economy was so bad that it cost me more than to run regular gas. Sure E85 is cheaper but it cost you more in the end.

Brasil king of flex fuel cars since the 70s. Most cars assembled there are now flex fuel ready. Greetings to Brasil

The most important sensor in a flex fuel car is the fuel ratio sensor (may be known by another name). This sensor tells the computer what the ratio of ethanol to gasoline is. Depending on what your last fuel up was it could be anywhere between E0 to E85. The computer needs to know this in order inject the right amount. This is because of the energy difference between ethanol and gasoline. If your computer doesn't have an input for this sensor it will never work right. The sensor can't be added later. As mentioned the entire fuel system has to be made of stainless steel. The extra water in ethanol will corrode the bronze, steel and aluminum parts.

Well. I'm Brazilian. 15 years ago we didn't have flex fuel motorcycles. But, the ethanol are less than half of cost gasoline. I was a poor guy. So every time I buy a new vehicle, just change the carburetor to put 30% more fuel in lower, and 20% more in high rotation. Straight ethanol works amazing and cheap. Right now I'm living in Paraguay. And I have a original japanese used imported car. 2003. This year on this maker, requires 92 octane pure gas, engine qg15de. I bought a bosch green injector, and I use the most cheapest gasoline (86 octane) and mix with etanol cheapest fuel. Like 51% gasoline and 49% ethanol. Until now no issues. 3 years of use and more than 50k kilometres. I believe: ethanol are better than gasoline. I'm wrong?

I run e30 in my car and there’s a huge power difference compared to 93
