I never once thought it was my "Social responsibility" to work myself into the grave to support people with no sense of social, or even personal, responsibility.

My mother told me when I was young "if I just give you everything you will never appreciate it, if I make you earn it you will appreciate it forever". The older I get the more I realize how true that is

There is a world where there are no prices and no obligation to be self-sufficient: childhood. Many people never want to leave.

A lot of people now want to be taken care of without working. We used to have a system where others would be forced to labor for those who had no desire to labor themselves.

I thinking I was going to skip over "Dismantling America", but I'll give it a listen. Can't get enough of Thomas Sowell

You'll notice the "free stuff" they want is always something nice, like a Rolls Royce or complete university education. It's never a ham sandwich.

Where "social responsibility" rears its head, "personal responsibility" inevitably disappears.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”
― Alexander Fraser Tytler

They don’t show you the real bill or they “defer payment” ( debt) because if they sent you the bill for it you very quickly wouldn’t just tell them no... you tell them no. Socialism’s most attractive attribute is to defer ones self responsibility. Only till you get older do you realize how bad of an idea that is.

"People don't want the details..." is another way of saying they don't to think or be accountable.

The American government can't run a hotdog cart but people think they can figure out universal health care. The same people who say how inept our government is look to the government more and more to take care of them this perplexes me, it doesn't make sense.

As a general rule, whatever Richard Wolff says about economics and politics, the opposite is usually true.

I wonder what Wolff charges for one of his addresses. If he believes what he says, they must be free.

I've come to realize that the most misused word in the English language is "free". There are two truths associated with this one word. On the one hand, "free is worth what you paid for it". On the the other, you often can't afford anything that is free.
