Fisker Ocean - Software Update 2.2

Today I will cover the software update 2.2: preparation, update and initial impressions.

I feel the use of a battery tender is fairly controversial but I am going to suggest using one. If you do use one, I suggest keeping it connected when the car is not driven to insure the 12V is always near capacity. I do that anyway to reduce phantom losses as it is. It just happens to be that I am testing the high amp battery charger this week. I feel if you already have a 4-5 A battery tender, it should work fine. I happeneed to be resting a high amp charger this week. Thst option seems more future proof since I can adjust the amps.

Note, I previously had version 2.0 and never saw 2.1. In a follow-up video I will cover additional items and answer and questions you might have. Please let me know what you want to see.

New features:

1. Regen on both axles: With regenerative braking available on both axles, vehicle dynamics will be improved (for AWD vehicle only).

2. External power outlet (US market): The external power adapter can now be connected to the charge port of US vehicles and be used as a power outlet for AC-powered accessories. This feature is also now enabled from the Charging screen on the Central Touchscreen in US vehicles.

3. Additional exterior lighting activation: During the day and night, additional exterior lighting such as the grille lamp and rear tail lamps are activated along with the daytime running lights. Activated lighting varies per market.

Performance improvements:

4. Software changes in the brake module to address all diagnostic trouble codes related to the drag torque control and to enhance the vehicle brake system’s ability to adapt to various driving scenarios.

5. Software changes to remove inner door handle pull and gear change to PARK as triggers which deployed the outer door handles. Deployment will now be triggered when: (1) door is opened/ajar OR (2) door is unlocked by the key fob, smartphone app, or inner door lock switch.

6. Algorithm changes to better estimate vehicle range based on the remaining state of charge (SoC).

7. Ocean’s energy management system enhancements during normal operation and OTA updates to better maintain your vehicle battery’s state of charge (SoC) and reduce passive battery drainage.

8. Climate controls optimization to mitigate fogging at near freezing temperature

9. Other bug fixes and performance enhancements

Since I didn't have Update 2.1, I also got these changes:

10. SolarSky performance enhancements
11. Improved 12V battery management
12. Enhancements to the Driver Display (Tell Tale Lamps now meet NHTSA requirements - size and color)
13. Other bug fixes and performance enhancements
(Fix for regen issues that were part of the recall notice, Fixed the erroneous "charge port door open" message, Less ADAS warnings, Improved key fob operation)

Matt,
This is very helpful and thorough for people that don't have 2.1 update yet. I am particularly glad to see the V2L demo. I saw that piece of accessary but never dare to use it. I guess that I just have to sit tight and wait for my turn of the 2.2 update. I got the 12V 3Amp battery charger and OBD II adaptor ready. The battery tender shows the SoC is > 50%. Hopefully that's enough.

Excellent video! Thanks for putting it out there!
Quick story;
I left town on the 12th and returned on the 15th, and to my surprise, I received 2.2 OTA! Charged to 85% before leaving, but I 'forgot' to plug in the newly installed trickle tickler. Key points;
1. 12v battery did run down to 65%, however the vehicle started no prob.
2. Lost 5% (drained to 80% SOC) thru vampire drain (left my dashcam plugged in accidentally 🤦🏿‍♂️
3. Didn't hear any new fangled unlock/lock sounds or see any new graphics on the solar charge screen.
4. I never received a V2L adapter upon delivery of my FOO. I ended up puchasing a new one on ebay for a reasonable price. I'll test that out later.
5. I'm able to see the release notes for 2.2.
Bottom line, I think they may push this in multiple updates. Or they scrapped some of the features you showcased in your video.

Can you do a camping mode test and see if you activate either the V2L or the rear power do you still need to sit in the car and leave the seatbelt buckled etc to keep it on? Thanks so much for your videos!!

Can you provide insight into how long the update lasted and how much energy is actually required? I've seen many amateur comments on FB about a minimum necessary charge on the main battery if not using a 12v battery tender. I've seen everything from 40% to 80% (which would be insane if the update is using that much energy). I would estimate 300 watts of energy being used (to run all the computers) during the update. At that rate, it's using 0.3 kWh of energy each hour, or less than 0.3% of the main battery capacity every hour (assuming the main battery is charging the 12v battery).

Also, what connectivity is necessary? I've heard WiFi is required, which is going to be a problem for me where I currently have to park on the street.

I would like to NOT have to buy and install a 12v battery tender. I think that's a ridiculous and unfair expectation for an automobile software upgrade.

think it's a great car for a really good price at the moment. Thanks for the video

Nice, hopefully the underlying software improves some of the other issues like performance mileage and brake regeneration management features.

….now I need to check if I received 2.2 yet! You are a cornucopia of Fisker info, many thanks.

Im confused, instructions for 2.2 stated to not have a tender connected but everyone seems to do it. Also i noticed you gat a more powerful tender then the 4amp one on your previous video. Should i keep my 4amp tender connected? Should i get a more powerful tender?

Love the V2L addition. Wish we had a NEMA 15-50 version of the V2L adapter...

Very nice! If you are on the test group can you ask for them to fix the lag/slowness in earth mode when you press the accelerator? It should be smooth like a Tesla in Chill mode. Also it would be nice for the car to remember what mode you are in, so you could start off in Fun or Hyper mode from the get-go. And it would be amazing if there was a real-time Kw (power output) reading on the dash. Not to mention it display individual tire pressures too!

Hi Matt,
Another excellent video. I’m looking forward to the 2.2 OTA update.
Question: How did you know you had the 2.2 update coming?
Thanks,
N

I bought an ocean the dealership took care of the update and the recalls
They upgraded at the dealer to 2.2 they insured me. It’s running on 2.2
But it’s still showing 1.1 they said they can’t change that but by your video it shows the parking brake light and ABS lights are larger solar power roof has those colors on it. It looks like 2.2 but doesn’t reflect on the car.
Fisker Newport tech said it has to be flashed to show 2.2 on the monitor. Does that sound right?
Thank for the video

Great restraint not to punch Henrik in the face when he popped up...

But seriously, thank you for this overview. I'm on 2.0 right now and am eager for the 2.2 OTA (but hopefully not when I'm out of town this weekend in case something goes wrong!)
