The most useful advice I ever got from my mother was, "Always fill up the sink with hot, soapy water BEFORE you start cooking." That makes washing as you cook a piece of cake.

I love how real you are. You admit your challenges. I have the same issue with not putting things away. I go through spells of being a clean freak or a clutter bug.

Quick tip to clean your blender: Put washing up water into it and switch it on so it cleans itself. I then empty and rinse it, and leave it to dry. No fiddling with blades necessary.

The put-bins-where-piles-collect tactic is like a desire line being made into an authorized path. I am intrigued.

I avoid boxes brought into the house like from box stores....they have hidden pests sometimes. I use a laundry basket lined with a trash bag to keep for donations.

We're going to be remodeling our kitchen soon, so this is great reminders for my decluttering that will be happening. Going thru all of my house with a "fresh" set of eyes.

This one really nailed it for me. As I am putting my sewing room back together, I noticed that I have a nasty habit of "temporarily" setting things on the shelf by the closet. The next thing I know, all manner of crap is on this shelf and I can't get to the things that are supposed to be on this shelf -- and then it spreads like a rash everywhere else which is what triggered this major clean out in the first place. Excellent tips! I will be playing this video on repeat as I finish up my sewing room. Thank you!

I have found that the upper cabinets above the dishwasher are places to put *less* used items because I'm short and I can't reach while the door is open.

Swept out and sorted the small garden shed. A tool bar and a few shelves up will make a big difference.

I followed your advice about donation boxes. I have two boxes for book, CDs, and various other items that just creates clutter. When I'm done reading a book, it get put in the box. When there's CDs I don't listen to and want anymore, it gets put on the box. When the box gets full, I take it back to local news and used bookstore. I have a second box that I start with items. If the store gives me books back due to inventory issues, I dump the rest in the stores free bin.
