Insert, Replace, Overwrite clips in Davinci Resolve

In this Davinci resolve tutorial I'll share with you a technic I use to quickly make modification to my edits. Insert, Overwrite, Replace, Place on top, Ripple Overwrite, Append to End of Timeline, those are basics actions that any video editor should know, ideally you should know the shortcut for those as it's the kind of things you use a lot. But there's another alternative by dropping directly the clip on your viewer.

I've provided timestamps so you can easily jump between sections:

00:00 - Intro
00:12 - The functionality
01:00 - Insert
01:38 - Overwrite
01:50 - Replace
02:50 - Fit to Fill
03:20 - Place on Top
03:30 - Append to End of Timeline
03:50 - Ripple Overwrite

It works with adjustment clips too.
That's how I mostly use the "place on top"

X to add an in and out point for the length of a selected clip, drag and drop an adjustment clip in the viewer, place on top...

Same for the whole timeline. It's quicker than dragging an adjustment clip on the timeline and drag the edges to match the length.

I have been using Davinci for a while almost 2 years now and I have not known about this. This was very informative, thank you!

After using Premier Pro for so long I was used to holding down ALT and dragging a clip so it replaced the one I was moving to, none of these actually seem to do this, the closest one is 'Fit to fill' but as you showed, that stretches or compacts the clip to fit. How can you drag a clip with a modifier to replace the one in the timeline with no change to the speed etc?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I'm a Premiere user and I'm trying DVR. I have a problem: I need to replace a clip on the timeline with another (whether it is longer or shorter), maintaining exactly the duration of the clip on the timeline which therefore must function as a fixed container. I noticed that if I "replace" on a clip between two others (which work a bit like a "wall"), everything is ok but if the clip is on the timeline but without other nearby clips, its length changes based on the new one clip that I choose replace in with "replace". I hope I explained myself! In Premiere what I want to do is possible. K
