You can spot the DNA for the title credits of The Wrath of Khan in here ... it's awesome how you can hear how he moves on from one movie to the next, finding something new while carrying special moments with him from before.

This was my first James Horner soundtrack which I still have on vinyl. Rest In Peace James and thank you for the music.

The movie soundtracks of Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner were my childhood growing up. As well as John Williams.

It is amazing to think that this was the late great Mr Horners first film score...and he was only 26 when he wrote it.

A really great film score.

Even when you listen to his early scores (like this one) you could tell he was a real talent and would go onto great things.

I actually got to see Battle Beyond the Stars at the movie theater when it came out in 1980. My dad took my brother and me to see it when we lived in Hawaii.

Seriously I hear so much of ST:II in this and Krull soundtracks, it's really a lovely thing. It's like finding unmistakeable, long-lost relatives that you recognize immediately.

I wore the grooves out on this vinyl when I was a kid. Loved horner's music.

James Horner didn’t need to go so hard with the music score, but I’m so glad he did! The music is worthy of a major blockbuster movie!

An underrated sci-fi movie if you ask me and a great soundtrack to boot.

Unmistakable James Horner signature here. Great similarity to 'Wrath of Kahn'. Superb!

Battle Beyond the Stars, Rocketeer, Krull, Star Trek I, Star Trek II, and Star Trek III all use the same music, just revamped to personalize each movie. Star Trek II's soundtrack knocked my socks off when I first heard it, and so it was a little weird hearing bits and pieces of it in other soundtracks.
But now I have totally different out look on it and I love it. By re-using these incidental pieces in multiple movies, it gives our universe its own consistent soundtrack, and each time I hear strains of this music in a different movie I feel comfortable and at home. No two soundtracks are identical, yet they have a warm familiarity. It now makes each movie more exciting and personal.

This is such an extraordinary film score By James Horner. It gives us wonderful glimpses of future film music. If you listen to the theme you'll find a variation of music from the 1960 original The Magnificent Seven.
Sadly the last score he composed for was to the 2016 remake of the same film.
