"Airplanes kinda look like airplanes. So we're looking for an image of an airplane."

Clearly earned his place on the expedition with that kind of technical knowledge on display.

The airzoo in Kalamazoo is restoring a Dauntless and a Grumman Wildcat to be displayed at the Navy Pier in Chicago. The airzoo has a Dauntless that was in the November 1942 invasion of North Africa, restored to Museum quality on display. It went in the lake in 1943 and was recovered in 1993 and required 8 years of restoration, much of it done by volunteers.

imagine what they could find in the restricted waters on Lake Michigan! Military restricted for practice runs.

I live in Michigan and recently went to the air museum (Air Zoo) in Kalamazoo. They were working on a dauntless recovered from Lake Michigan and mentioned that the plane was intended for display in Chicago. Does anyone know what happened to the aircraft they found in this clip? Could it be the one now being restored?

There's a DC10 out there, too - happened in the 1960s, I think.

Can’t believe how clear the water is! I thought lakes had poor visibility.

Might be some well preserved machine guns laying around down there.

My uncle trained on flying b17 and b29 bombers in lake michigan and later in miami south beach. I remember he said there were frequent crashes and mishaps, as all the pilots were newbies. 😆😆🇺🇸🇺🇸

0:27 - 28 something in the water just to the left of the antenna, then gone underwater.

How do you get an aircraft carrier into lake Michigan? I didn't think that the canals could support anything that large.

...Ahh, nevermind. Just looked it up. One ship, the USS Sable, originally built as a passenger ship, was purchased by the government and converted to have a airstrip deck solely for the purpose of training pilots. It was built by Amship in Lorain Ohio right near where I grew up. They still had to navigate from lake Erie all the way to lake Michigan.

So that's where Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 ended up.

So, more then 2 years later, did they lift it up?

Flight is in very small parts. Hitting the water at 400mph the plane and the body's were chopped up like being in a grinder

Wouldn't it crumble to pieces while being raised?? Its been sitting there for decades I highly doubt it's in any shape to be raised.

It's a bit of a stretch to call that a plane!

A wrecked portion of fuselage without anything forward of the firewall and missing wings and tail does not an aircraft make.

Most importantly, no casualties incurred during the crash.

_(CNN)_ 'As every wreck salvage team knows, it can take *_years_* of perseverance to find submerged wrecks, and aircraft. This team knows it'll be a *_long_* and drawn out exercise in patience and perseverance.'

_(salvage team)_ "The trouble with finding submerged wrecks like this is, it's like finding a needle in a hay-.. .. oh look there it is."

_(CNN)_ 'And within *_minutes_" .. They fiiiind what they're looking for.'

Didn't take long did it. Lol.
