First I thought that you meant cutting the first 10 pages as a writing exercise. More than one story would have be told more effectively with a shorter beginning(and an extended ending).

Alright, so i have a separate question to this topic that i've been thinking about. The scenario is that you've written a book that is the first of a series following a core selection of characters, and you submit this to querying, and in the time that this process is still ongoing, you finish the second book in the series to your satisfaction. Do you only wait until you land an agent and manage to get published before you broach the subject of the second book with them, or (when Querying new agents) can you submit both as explicitly book 1 and 2 of what will be a series?

What about making it shorter because a natural break is sooner? That'd be good, right? Save the agent some 🤷‍♀️

Does the prologue count as the ten pages, or do you send them the ten pages starting with chapter one?

What is the spacing for those page? 1.5 or double spacing?

Do you have any advice for people querying a short story for publishers that are looking for short stories?

Do you know if agents prefer you to come to them with a finished work, or a book in progress? Mine’s probably about a third of the way done and I want to know when I should start planning that kind of stuff
