Elon Musk's company, Neuralink, which focuses on developing brain-computer interfaces, recently received FDA approval for its first human clinical trial, a notable achievement after seven years of research and development. Neuralink's device aims to allow humans to control electronic devices using thoughts by interpreting brain signals.

While the technology promises transformative benefits, especially for those with motor disabilities, it hasn't been without controversy. In 2021, concerns arose due to complications in animal trials, leading to ethical questions. Nonetheless, successes, like enabling a monkey named Sake to request snacks using his mind, showcased its potential. Beyond device control, Neuralink aspires to restore or even introduce vision by directly stimulating the brain using a camera-based system, offering hope for the visually impaired.

The FDA's approval was met with varied responses, reflecting both excitement and apprehension based on Neuralink's past issues. The upcoming PRIME Study will focus on assessing the implant's safety and effectiveness in letting paralyzed individuals control external gadgets. As Neuralink heads towards its human trials, it stands at the cusp of potentially revolutionizing medical and technological landscapes.

My father who was in auto accident in late 2018 has lived as a quadriplegic since. Thank you for this video. 🙏 This gives a man like my father hope, even if he doesn’t qualify right now.

Very high risk, but the suffering/disability of the target use-cases is such that it is warranted, so long as their consent is genuinely well informed.

In several cases, the implant became infected, leading to complications that resulted in the euthanization of the animal. Some of the symptoms during the trials included chronic infections, swelling in the brain, “remnant electrode threads” from the device found in the brain, “tattered” cerebral cortex, paralysis, seizures, loss of coordination and balance, and depression. Several of the monkeys were seen pulling at the implant and expressing signs that it was causing them pain and discomfort.

To me, it’s obvious this technology will be made, but as a permanent chip is the wrong way to do it. It needs to be a tool or a headband, that allows you to connect your brain to the internet, and allows you to remove it whenever. The issue with the chip is that it can not be removed easily, living your life with that thing inside will change how you perceive the world. The device has to be designed to be removed, or else people will go mad.

If you can control a computer with nurolink, can the computer control you?

Hmmmn. I'm in my late 30s, and if these human trials had begun this 2023, then I guess I won't be able to enjoy this once it became mainstream.

Does neuralink include a neural inhibitor chip like Dr. Otto Octavius' four mechanical arms did?

With the brain chip and chips in the spinal cord. It could control your thoughts and movement. You risk becoming a slave.
