If I started a war, why on earth would I end it unless I either got what I wanted or was forced to accept a loss? The only way Putin's war will end is if he gets what he wants or the Ukrainians push him out of Ukraine.

Must be quite intimidating workin over in Moscow as a U.S. diplomat, especially in current circumstances.
All the U.S. staff at the embassy deserves more acknowledgement and respect for the work they do quietly.

Russia is at a point of no return. How can they justify negotiating now when;
1. So many lives have been lost
2. So much equipment has been captured, damaged, and destroyed
3. Lies have been told and the russian people have been greatly deceived
4. The country has been embarrassed on the world stage as its military has not lived up to its hype
5. Their economy is suffering even more than it was before the war
6. The goal of deterring countries on their western border from joining NATO has backfired
7. Their soldiers have openly committed war crimes
8. Those who were supporters of VP are now openly criticizing him because they are losing money
9. The EU and other countries are willing to make some hard choices in order to not depend on russian oil or gas
10. The world response was not anticipated by russia but pride won't let VP admit he was wrong

At this point, negotiating a peace agreement and surrender are the same...

If Russia didn’t have plans for aggression, then they wouldn’t have a problem with anybody joining NATO. How upset they get is enough reason on its own for Finland to join. It reveals Russia’s true nature and goals.

I'm amazed how U.S. ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan speaks of realities better than a diplomat would. Some diplomats try so hard to be diplomatic in speaking the truth and sometimes skirt the truth to be friendly. But not this U.S. ambassador who even calls out Lavrov. With so much information around it is only right that diplomats be very frank and correct even if not in a diplomatic way.
