Ford Mustang GTD Nurburgring Lap Time Update!
Показать описание
Ford built the incredible Mustang GTD for many different reasons, but one reason seems to be more important to Ford than any other, breaking the Nurburgring lap record. Ford spent about 4 months testing the GTD at the Nurburgring and since then, Ford's been using some pretty strong language about their quest to dominate the Nurburgring. But then about a month ago, the Mustang GTD left the Nurburgring and we never got a lap time. So after all the testing and all the big talk, millions of us want to know, what's going on with the GTD's lap record?
On October 2nd the supercarblog reported that Ford had abandoned their lap record attempt due to bad weather. And then the following day the drive reported that Fords testing operations had shut down and they would need to wait until spring to resume testing. But then on October 16th ford released this short teaser video about the GTD's Nurburgring lap time.
And after Ford released the video, motor authority reported that the Ford has set an official lap time for the GTD and it is most likely less than seven seconds.
And it's hard to imagine Ford would have done this if they didn't have something to brag about.
In the teaser video, Ford states that "no North American manufacture has done a sub-seven-minute lap yet" so from this we can determine that either the GTD has completed a sub-seven-second Nurburgring lap time, or Ford is Extremely confident it can. So a lap time of less than seven minutes is reasonable to expect. The teaser video also states that the GTD was designed to “beat the Europeans on their turf." So when Ford mentions the "Europeans" do they mean every car company in Europe, or is this a generalized statement that hints at the manufacturers best known for building sportscars, like Porsche, Ferrari, mclaren and Lamborghini?
And just how possible is any of this? If ford wants to break the current Nurburgring lap record the GTD is going to need to do it in less than 6 minutes, and 29.09 seconds, which is the current record set by the Mercedes AMG One. And just to put that into perspective, the fastest nurburgring lap time ever achieved by a Ford mustang is 7 minutes and 39.28 seconds, which was set by the Mustang Shelby GT500. That's a difference of 1 minute and 10 seconds. And if you're wondering about the latest Ford GT, no Nurburgring lap time has ever been announced. To be honest with you, I don't expect the AMG Ones lap record to be broken by anyone anytime soon, but if Ford is looking to beat Porsche, Ferrari, mclaren and lamborghini, then I do believe *that* is possible, and Ford only needs to be concerned with one car, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with the Manthey Racing kit installed, which has a nurburgring lap record of 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds, and I expect porsche to beat this and I even made a video all about it, which will link at the end of this video.
Now technically the GT2 RS lap time shouldn't stand as an official manufacturer's lap time since the car has been significantly modified by another company. So the true 2nd place goes to mercedes once again, with the AMG GT Black Series which has a lap time of six minutes and 48 seconds.
As far as the specs for the Mustang GTD, it is powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. The engine powers the rear wheels only and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is mounted at the rear for better weight distribution. But more importantly than it's extremely powerful engine, the GTD is fitted with trick suspension designed by multimatic, and a bevy of active aerodynamics, which will be more useful on the Nurburgring than sky high horsepower. But the GTD also has some serious disadvantages, mainly its weight, and the large drag-inducing front end.
