One of the guy's in my dorm at UMass had this video cassette tape (circa 1988) and we'd sit around watching it at least weekly while drinking beers.
My Uncle Warren was a Marine and fought in Guadalcanal during WW2. My brother enlisted shortly after this movie was released, and my Mom was wondering what he was going thru on Paris Island. Uncle Warren told her watching this movie would give her a good idea.
I went through Army basic training in '86, at Ft. Leonard Wood MO. Not quite as grueling as Marine basic, but certainly tough enough! The military finds the roughest terrain to train in. We definitely had a couple drill sergeants like this guy, one was worse!
Sergeant Sueppel, if you're out there, thanks for doing an outstanding job training A43!
