R Lee’s talent is a testament to his training in the USMC. He’s not acting, that’s real.

I actually remember being basically brainwashed into loving my M4 more than my own mother, the end of BCT was bittersweet because on one hand I graduated and got to go home but on the other hand I had to say goodbye to my trusty rifle

The harsh reality of being in the military. One day you're standing. The next day could be your last. God bless them and protect them from harm.

I love how Gunny never looks forward. He's always watching the formation.

A testament to R Lee Ermey's abilities and dedication to the role.

Such a legend. He walked & talked what he preached. Such a testament to the Marine Core & the military. RIP

Ermey had to be the tipping point for the other actors to feel as though the experience was real. I cannot imagine anyone else portraying the drill instructor after seeing Ermey in this role. It’s 100% authentic and iconic

I love Gunny’s absolutely perfect form in this scene. The decade +* of drilling shows so clearly compared to the actors playing the recruits, and it works so well.

*”decades edited to “decade +”, for accuracy.

Without doubt the most authentic presentation of a Marine Drill Instructor ever. Ermy was the real deal. The hard part for him was getting rid of the actor originally cast for the part. After that the rest was easy.

You can't overestimate the value of those cadence songs to help keep you going.

Last one hits hard, my mom died 4 months and I’m going into the boot camp in November. It feels weird going through life and the rest of it without my mom being there to see my accomplishments
