Ry Cooder is the most under-appreciated guitarist ever. He's been a monster forever.

I'm glad I saw Ry in the 70's and 80's when he and his band was a powerful force of nature, HIGH energy and could blow the roof OFF the joint. That Catalyst show was beautiful. Thanks Ry. Thanks for being a cool guy and helping people see the right way and helping the workers.

Cooder at his best after all those years.

Ry is a Master Artist. It is fitting that he pays tribute to Johnny Cash. Ry just keeps getting better with age.

"Get Rhythm" was the "B" side of Johnny Cash's signature tune "I Walk The Line" in 1956. In Cash's bio he said he wrote it for Elvis Presley. Nice to see that Cash had an influence on Ry Cooder - two originals.

One of my favorite Cash tunes performed by one of America's great underappreciated musicians. Can't do wrong.

This one man rocks harder than 10, 000 so-called rockers of the last 50 years at least, NRBQ perhaps the sole exemption. It is said Ry's cover was inspired by NRBQ's cover as they came out right around the same time. And Ry surely knows how to pick his musicians and singers, arrange them to el-perfecto perfection. Goddamn! This man makes me smile like few in history I can virtually count on one hand -- Nina Simone, King Curtis, Louis, Sun Ra, Monk, Cash, Jerry Lee, Elvis -- American made never to be seen again.

Cell phones should detect shaky users and self destruct with lots of pyrotechnics.

I’m younger than Ry but basically same age group...boomers. Hearing and watching Ry perform this with his band and backers reminds me that age is a state of mind. I hope I’m still crushing it in my life now and when I’m Ry’s age. Also, I love the way he is happy to step aside and let the piano take the lead. No ego. Just fun and appreciation for the fun of doing something, anything well.

oh man, Ry is pure gold. Like all good things in life, his music is an acquired taste. Somehow it speaks to me so clearly. This man is so unique. I haven't met a anyone I didn't get along with that also likes Ry's music.

Saw Ry Cooder on his Get Rhythm tour June 1988 in Glasgow, probably still best concert I’ve ever seen, bonus was Steve Douglas on sax, hero of mine from Duane Eddy records, fantastic!!

What fun! Love the Latin jazz piano break. Ry sounding as good as ever! What is that guitar he’s playing? A “Coodercaster”? It’s wild.

Thanks for recording this and sharing it. I have listened to anything I can of Ry Cooder since 1980's.

The commentary on the emotionally stifling conformity of schooling is something nearly every creative person complains of, we should be listening because it is the most creative people that most shape the best things about the world in which we live, short change the highly imaginative a proper education and you short change the whole world, it would be far better if the most imaginative inspired children were allowed to be such unimpeded, then everyone's creative potential is enhanced, the key to success in any field is emotional authenticity and the key to good schooling is in the satisfaction of authentic curiosity of which conformity is the opposite.

Wow, he’s still got it and them some. And he is still having fun! Did you see the other band members watching him? Even they were surprised at how great the song was...
