The black car is a 1957 Ford Skyliner. A retractable hardtop which folds itself and is stored inside the trunk. I had one in high school (graduated in 1973) and then for an additional 10 years.

If you look closely you can see the driver's door is already missing when the car explodes. Also, when the Ford crashes you can see there is something duct-taped (see the silver?) over the back window, and you can't see the fire from inside the car.

Really sad they didn´t use Barrys music for this scene. Its on the soundtrack.
