Call me crazy, but I actually liked the way this was portrayed and how this was the turning point for them, it was a casual conversation about taste in books that turns into a generous gift on a whim to make her happy. Sure, it wasn't a decided gift that was meant as a surprise to her like the cartoon, he just did it because she complimented it, but I feel that the development in their relationship in this adaptation is far more realistic, especially considering his curse and why he has it. Plus, it was his idea, not something Lumier or Cogsworth thought of for him.

Also, I'm a weird sucker for a more rustic and worn aesthetic, the white and gold in the original library was a bit too pristine for me. But books are books, I'm there for the contents, not the cover. 😅

Aye yai yai…. This is bad…..

In the original…. The beast wanted to do something nice for belle because “ive never felt this way about anyone. I want to do something for her. But what?”

He is developing feelings for her and wants to express them but doesn’t know how. It was Lumiere’s idea to give her the library because he remembered how she loved books. The beast didn’t know this and wanted to make her happy. He didn’t understand her fascination for books, but he wanted to learn.

In a deleted scene, belle teaches the beast how to read.

The beast gave her the library to make belle happy.

In the remake he shows her the library to make a point on “there are better things to read than romeo and juliet.”

That’s…. Mean! Very mean! It devalues her interests! Its ok to have a difference of opinion, but… this was not him giving her a gift out of love, but out of spite…. And then he leaves???? In the original, the beast spends the day with her.

Edit: call it a nitpick, but… look at how colorful the original library was… and look at how dull and brown the remake is. Why are all the books the same color as the shelves? I may be colorblind, but come on… make em pop out like an actual library or bookstore.
