I've always loved how Adam and Barbera treat Lydia like their daughter. Especially how Adam teases Lydia about getting a C on her science test, before Barbera points out that he never got an A in science. So sweet and cute!

Something I always loved about the ending; early on in the film, it's somewhat implied that Barbara and Adam were unable to have children of their own (likely due to fertility issues) when they were alive. While they may be ghosts now, they've both found a surrogate daughter in Lydia and both the Maitland's and the Deetz's live (so to speak) together as a happy alive/undead blended family. So what Adam and Barbara didn't have in life they were able to find in the afterlife and Lydia, Delia, and Charles are happy to have the Maitland's in their home 😊

For those asking if "Adam and Barbara adopted Lydia", yeah kinda. They now have a child, in Lydia. It's not a problem for her actual parents as they never gave her much love or attention anyway. Lydia and Delia didn't even like each other. So now Delia can focus on her art and Charles can relax without anyone bothering like he wanted the whole movie. And Lydia gains guardians that actually care about her. It's a perfect ending, everyone gets what they wanted.
