Those who revisited Tim Burton's original "Beetlejuice" before seeing the long-gestating sequel may have noticed that, amid the return of familiar faces like Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, a few main actors are largely absent from the follow-up -- including one who's missing for a pretty good reason.

Unfortunately Otho didn't make an appearance because the actor who played him, Glen Shaddix, died in a fall at his home 14 years ago.

I was a little surprised how much attention the character got, when they could have passed over that backstory quickly. The way they even animated Jones, I would think he would have to be paid for his image anyway.

I am happy that they did it this way for the character that way we don't have to deal with it

It’s a shame how he was featured so much but all we got of Adam and Barb was their miniatures added crawling out of the river in the opening pan of the miniature town

Jones still got paid for likeness rights.

It’s too bad that so many famous people have eventually turned out to be so shady. From Jones’ sex offender stuff, to movie and TV people like Bill Cosby, Matt Lauer, Kevin Spacey, R Kelly, and now Diddy, sports people like Mike Tyson or O.J. Simpson, and others. Just to name a few. I don’t understand why people with all of that success would risk it all and throw it away. Makes you wonder how many others are out there that haven’t even been revealed.

I think this movie did what more people need to start doing when they find out an actor is greasy: separate the character from the actor.

Imagine describing child abuse as 'controversial'

He got more attention than Maitlands did in that film. They got a brief reason why they aren't there and thats it. It should have been the other way around!

He's not a controversial actor, we all know what he is. Choosing to employ him in acting is the controversy.

This was a pretty hilarious way to clearly and directly disrespect him. I just wondered if he had to be paid for his likeness in the animated sequence or his picture on the headstone.

Jones was still in the whole movie. He was present. In many ways. So much mentions.

I figured it had to do with the issues, plus royalties and residuals to the actor. There is a famous case where Crispen Glover sued because another actor played him in "Back to the future 2" and he was replaced by another actor in prosthetics to look like him. If they tried to recast him in this sequel they would have to pay him. They were ingenious about how they dealt with it by a. writing him out of (and continuity with) the story with a plane crash, and b. having a shark eat him so no likeness of his upper body could be used in beetlejuice 2. This was they stuck another actor in the dismembered suit and called it good. Burton did some creative writing to get around the issues and still keep the movie going.

He was an excellent actor. It’s a shame that he couldn’t behave himself

If they didn’t want him in the movie why did they refer to him so freaking much? Why put his face on the tombstone. It made no sense.

The animation was lame. And they gave him far too much screen time considering how bad a person he is. Should have been a throw away line and move on. The movie is terrible anyways.
