Why You Shouldn’t Carry a Pistol on Your Vest

Why do some soldiers carry their pistols on their vests when it’s actually a bad idea? The current trend is to carry pistols on the hip, as it requires the least movement to draw and keeps the weapon more secure. Other holster types, like thigh holsters, have fallen out of favor due to the discomfort and instability they cause during movement.

Despite this, pistols mounted on vests are still seen. However, they make drawing the weapon harder to control, take up valuable space on the vest, and complicate going prone to a firing position.

That said, for vehicle or aircraft crews, mounting a pistol anywhere other than the vest can make it incredibly difficult to draw when confined in tight spaces, leaving the vest as the only practical option.

Kinda sorta right. It really matters about what job and what the mission is. Like drivers and people who do a lot where they sit would opt for a chest draw. If you’re doing a lot of standing it can be easier to draw from the hip. But hip or leg or chest doesn’t really matter about it being secure. It’s all secure if done properly. It’s really about comfort ease of access and training.

Well… a belt carry with your pistol back of grip even with the top of your belt is the easiest to carry and draw from.

If you are sitting a lot then a cross draw forward of your weak side and elevated just above your belt is the best way.

There is never a time when a low carry on your leg is good.

A tanker carry is the best way if you have to drive or sit in tight places.

But… depending on the shit you have to carry you make decisions.

I carried a pistol for decades as a primary weapon. If I was carrying a rifle as a primary I am not sure I would carry anything but a snub nose revolver as a secondary. Or just make sure I had more ammo for the rifle and forget the pistol all together.

This video is bogus.
The shooter decides the carry ( well in my team) vest carries work just fine even better than hip…

Airborne operations require drop leg holsters modern Airborne operations eliminate the hard roll formerly involved, as your rifle is in a trailing drop rig, your side arm is your PRIMARY arm when hitting the LZ and covering each other's rigging time. I've got 12 30 rds 6 pistol mags, knife, light, com pk, 2 smokers, 1 rd 1 grn flare ... assorted other gear on my chest, I don't want my pistol as well ... maybe this was for those airsoft softies playing army 🤷🏻‍♂️
