I use both the water displacement and straw method together. Simply because I have to suck less air out at the end, plus get a tighter seal with least amount of air. This combo method is better for veggies like green beans, too. Make sure the zipper is closed all the way to the straw, pinching the straw a little. Then just dip in the water all the way in, leaving only the unzipped part out, and suck out any remaining air. And yes, I’m a little (a lot) lightheaded at the end of freezer day 😂 But worth it. Works great on both generic and name brand freezer bags.

After handling the chicken would it have been better to remove the gloves? I think so.

I just put the meat in the bag and seal it except for a small corner I leave open as I push the air out and flatten the meat. And you can even fold the bag if it is big enough and not filled all the way. Make sure it’s not the zip lock type bag “ the one that it has like a plastic zipper you slide across” they are not very air proof. Keep pushing the air out as you flatten it and then seal the small corner that was open. No straw needed. If you really want to seal it first place and flatten the meat on plastic wrap and wrap it tightly and then place into the plastic bag and do as I said one pressing the air out.

My mother used the straw method back in the 80s by just sucking out the air - no water required. But if you use a sink for your water, you can do it by sealing the bag up ALMOST to the end, submerge ther entire bag in water EXCEPT for that unsealed corner and the water pressure will force the air up and out through the little bit of opening. Then you just finish zipping the bag shut before taking it out of the water.

Fill the bag 1/4 - 1/3 full. Then leaving a little opening, roll
the bag tightly. Then, zip it...no water or straw is needed. Anyhoo,
when you buy frozen bags of veggies, they're not air tight.

Just suck on the straw! You don't need water displacement as well.
