Pathophysiology for Nursing: Corpus Callosum and the Nervous System
A thick area of myelinated nerves connecting the right and left hemispheres of the brain to prevent any chaos or uncoordinated responses to stimuli,
The corpus callosum is a C shaped area of white matter located in the core of the brain and responsible for communication between the two spheres.
Damage to the corpus callosum may be due to stroke, infection, tumor, aging and maternal alcohol consumption (related to fetal alcohol syndrome).
There is no cure, only symptom management.
