I see a lot of people getting the pituitary gland endocrine function mixed up with the pineal gland. The pituitary gland in concert with the hypothalamus produce activating (hypothalamus) and releasing hormones (pituitary). These hormones basically coordinate and signal the release of hormones from your other endocrine glands. The pineal gland is also underneath diencephalon within the infundibulum. The pineal gland produces melatonin which controls cicadian sleep rhythm. The pituitary stalk is just a part of the entire infundibulum. Which contains the thalamus, hypothalamus, and pineal glands

Yes. The hypothalamus is what controls your circadian rhythm, rem, sleep, GABA production and internal body temperature. I've been studying this for a year or so because I'm trying to figure out how to naturally cure my insomnia.
