Algebra 2 – Logarithmic Functions, Equations, and Inequalities

In the previous video, "Exponential Equations and Intro to Logs" we introduced our friend, "BeN", which stands for Base, exponent, and Number. In this video of Yay Math In Studio, we get reacquainted with him/her. We do several examples logarithmic functions, starting with pretty simple, to more complex. Then we introduce logarithmic equations and inequalities, and do some verifications. YAY MATH!

I played around with my paper & pencil and found out a new method that best explains why this is!

So, let's say you have:

(1/2) ^ -4 = x

We know that 1/2 is the same as 2 ^ -1 right??

So, you write that down as (2 ^ -1)^ -4 = x
Try solving this on your own and you'll understand the part that I'm about to explain:


-1 and -4 multiply and result in 4.

In the end, you have (2)^4 = x
Which is 2x2x2x2 = 16

So, (1/2) ^ -4 = 16 :)

Don't you have to follow the order of operations?
