This is what I've been thinking all
my life.
Amazing how a person on the other side of the world shares the same sentiment.

I think greed and comparing ourselves to others are driving factors that need to be changed

It’s so correct. We need to realize the true value of life and the facade we have created about illusionary life is a sham for all of us. Thought provoking and the right call for our times. Thanks for bringing it out to the universe. We all need this true life, not a phony life.

To answer the question: It's mostly because of security, being a slave to the system offers security and calm of mind, you trade your freedom for it but you also get some protection and of course modern day comforts such as running, warm water, a working water flushing toilet, internet, electricity and other leisures that will keep you occupied, not questioning your life too much.

that was beautiful. if we could merge this philosophy with science and nurture the natural world rather than destroy it, we could keep the creature comforts, power, internet, clean water, that humans are now unwilling to give up, but live the simple life regardless

Wow this hit home real fast. Deep within nearly all of us, there is a fundamental desire to feel our connection with the all. Intuition, gracefullness, love and freedom from the illusion of the ego..

I tried to tell someone - people who live like that are not poor. He was a middle school teacher. He wouldn't have a good-faith discussion w me about it. He just insisted that yes, they're poor. Ugh.

That's true, the animals make their homes quick and we slave away for 30 years or more trying to pay one off. What happened to us?

Poor is bad and rich is bad. Balance. Family planning is key

I grew up and live in Toronto, Canada, but as I was reading the bible, I started to envy how simple things were way back then. We think we have it easier because things are convenient, but is it really? Back then, If someone inherited land with some trees, crops, and animals, those things will continue to provide and multiply naturally. They provide food, wood, bones, fur, milk, etc. You can eat them, sell them, trade them, gift them. Compare that to working 8 hours for money and all you can do with that is spend or invest, to eventually buy the things that earth provides for free, or things humanity never needed to live. We're working half an hour to buy one rotten mango from the grocery store when people have trees that give them hundreds of fresh, sweet mangos at no cost. Back then, you could move to the middle of nowhere, build a house, dig a well or find a river, and you'll have shelter with no bills to pay. And on top of that, you'll get more sunlight, more exercise, and more time with your family and communities. First world countries scare people into their way of life, making us think money, technology, mansions, fashion, and fast food is success and that being homeless is a nightmare, even life threatening, but if they lived somewhere else, being broke or 'homeless' wouldn't feel like the end of the world, it would simply be freedom to build whatever they want.
