He’s absolutely right. The analytics suggest the midrange jumper is a bad shot but you need to have it in your bag because it’s the only shot you can get off when you’re facing tough intense defense. They’ll run you off the 3 point line and they’ll clobber you if you try to get a layup. The only shot that cannot be guarded is the one and two dribble pull up jumper. If you watch film of Kobe and/or Jordan’s 2 dribble pull up jumpers you can see that the majority of the time the defender can’t even get off the ground to contest it. It’s essentially an uncontested shot. The one dribble tends to be contested a little better but the defender still can’t stop it.

Glad to see more players & teams are going back and realizing that the 3 ball isn't everything! For awhile the narrative was that you had to shoot lights out from 3 to win games, even if a team was shooting 29% or 0-27 that night, they would just keep jackin 'em up like there weren't other ways to score!

These playoffs & the young stars like Brunson, SGA, Mitchell, Murray etc. have revitalized the game and shown the dynamic & versatility of having it in your bag - it's actually my strongest shot, but I thought I was going to be at a disadvantage with the popularity of the three over the last decade, so this is great to see 🦾

The mid range even more important now that everything is PnR and dribble handoff. If your PG can go off a screen and get to the circle area, you are unstoppable. Look at Jamal Murray, Kyrie, Luca, DeArron Fox. All attack the mid range off a screen.

I played pickup yesterday and this was all I was doing. People don’t expect you to pull up early.

The real question is, WHY don’t everyone like the mid range?? I’m a middy magician and I love using it. I make 70% of my shots at the 12-17ft range with 60 -75% shot makes.
Can some one explain that for me more??
