Another fun and entertaining video. The FCC just commenced action against a ham operator who took it upon himself to "assist" with Fire Comms during the recent Large forest fires. Even when the Fire Chief asked him face to face to stop, he kept on. The want to fine him $50k

Lewis, perhaps you could list books and publications for reference as the research you do is both worthy of commendation and admiration. The time you put into this content is amazing! 👍👍

It would be interesting to know if those charges on the drug deal held up seeing as how the evidence was obtained through might be deemed illegal wiretapping.

hi Lewis always love watching your videos, the one you did cb was very intresting, as when illigal AM cb started up in the uk, couldnt understand till later why the then DTi were so keen to stamp it out , when the homemade burns(100w from lineoutput tv valves) came on the scene, as the 3rd harmonic 0f 27mhz fell on the inputs of the police, traffic repeators, and would be heard on the outputs .lol

I heard of an individual who used to use his amateur equipment to impersonate officers via vhf am to run PNC checks on vehicles and individuals that others he tacitly associated with had an interest in, he would charge them for each result he would obtain, he knew which officers were on duty as he had several radios monitoring the complete local area. He gave a legitimate collar no, vehicle id and reason code and control would look up and supply the details, apparently unaware they were being spoofed This went on for years. To coin a phrase “what cb, i ain’t got no cb, - Cmon !!!

I was only 14 In 1987 and i lived in Pacoima (zip code 91331) California about 30 miles north of Los Angeles and was a huge avid CB'r and a proud member of several CB clubs. We would meet monthly and talk about home built gear including frequency hacking and how to build better antennas and whatever. This story about the Police down in Pacoima rings a bell. A few of the members would often acquire radio gear at swap meets and most often from shady sellers. I don't think this story was about a lost police radio, but a possible CBr having access to the police band gear and goofing around. I clearly recall hearing about the FCC knocking on a few of my friends doors including mine!....me for pushing out too much power and causing havoc on my neighbors TV's 🤣after this scare my folks made me take down all my gear and forced me to change my hobbie to something less complicated, like computers....haha🤪

Back in the 80s, before the trunked radio systems were put in, people could use modified ham radios to get on the police and other frequencies

Commercial radio repeaters that commercial companies leased their radios to companies for a monthly fee to access their repeaters to be able to cover vast areas used to have a lot of trouble with people who had companies ranging from construction to taxis transportation to cement companies to garbage companies that would buy used radios and then program them onto the input frequency for the repeater company with the correct sub audible tones to activate the repeater and they would use the repeater without paying the fee and this went on for about a decade until the Motorola trunk Radio systems became the standard and making matters worse a lot of the illegal users would actually put in digital scramblers into their radios so only they could hear each other making it impossible to figure out who it was that was stealing the service
