Dedicated Circuit For Gas Range?

I had to install a dedicated 20 AMP circuit for a gas range once. It was a higher end gas range with an electric warming drawer and heating element for the convection oven that helped maintain temperature. It kept tripping the breaker for the circuit it was shared on. Not code, but just thought I would share since sometimes it might be needed.

I believe the NEC requires all fridges need their own 20 AMp Circuit. Your work is IMPECCABLE!

In Ontario Canada we "have to" install a 240V range plug whether or not you have a full gas range or not. I guess for future if someone prefers electric. But I did not have to do the same for the granny suite.

Im glad someone finally made a video on the subject. I've been told differently twice now.. A licensed electrician said the same thing you did, that it barely pulls any power

However I'm doing a dedicated 12/2 line anyways jusr incase any future homeowners want to change out the gas stove for an electric one, they'll be all set except for the receptacle.

It would be nice if you could make a video naming each appliance that needs its own dedicated line. It took me forever to get the answers. From what I understand a refrigerator, dishwasher and garbage disposal all need a dedicated line.

A range can also be put on one of the 20 amp counter circuits - SABC.

Hey man, what if the gas range is separate from the oven? Will the gas oven need a dedicated circuit, or tie in into something else like you explained?

Some Gas Stoves have a heating element which gets red hot to ignite the gas. In fact a bi-metal valve element flexes as this heating element heats up. The flexing is what causes a gas valve to open once the element is hot enough to ignite the gas. Connected to a meter I see that my range draws 4 amps. Can you point out the section of the NEC which confirms that a gas range does not need a dedicated circuit?
