What's The Difference? Clothes Dryer vs Range Stove Oven | Power Cords and Outlet Receptacles

Quick basic video for those unsure about what cord to purchase for their electric range or electric dryer. It's important to check the receptacle behind your appliance. Is it a 3-prong? Is it a 4-prong? Are all the terminals straight, or is one of them L-shaped?

Range power cords and receptacles should have a straight or I-shaped neutral. Dryer power cords and receptacles should have a L-shaped neutral.

Be sure you know you have the correct cord for the appliance you're installing, but first check the outlet behind the appliance and be sure the cord will plug into the outlet. Nothing more frustrating than purchasing a 3-prong dryer power cord and finding out later you have a 4-prong receptacle.

I moved into an older house and when I purchased a 3 prong power cord for the dryer I discovered that it would not fit into the 3 prong outlet behind where the dryer goes. With your video I realized they'd installed a 50 A outlet with three blade slots. Same exact as outlet for range/oven. So I need to know if I can use a range power cord on my dryer. Or do I need to switch out the outlet to fit a dryer power cord?

I just bought a used dryer and it seems to have a range cord, but i have the "L" outlet.
Can i just switch the "L" cord from the old dryer to the new dryer?

I have a question. A 4 prong outlet is outside my house. What on earth plugs into it? A generator 4 prong doesn't work as the L Prong goes the wrong way. I would attach photo but it won't let me

So I just moved into a place and had my washer and dryer delivered today. The delivery gentleman informed me that the outlet where the dryer goes is a stove outlet. Can I just change the outlet out with out running anything else? Or is there an amperage difference I need to worry about?

Hey .. it the dumbest question someone can ask.. i just moved into a house which doesn’t have a dryer outlet in the basement but do have a stove outlet so is there any way i can plug my dryer to the stove outlet . I know it wont fit in because the L shaped plug but is there any cord or extension i can use and where to find one i know that alots of questions…

I really hope someone can answer this for me... so the house I'm in has a receptacle that has that L shape in it. I got a new stove and I'm trying to find a cord for it because it has a normal range cord but is it safe to even use one of those cords with the L shaped prong?!?! Everything I see say this can cause a fire or ruin the stove and I don't know anything about this. Do they have the wrong receptical in the wall for the stove or is this okay?

Hi I’m getting an LG dryer delivered to my house .they sold me a three prong cord my house has a four prong with the L-shaped in it that you show .what would be comparable as far is brand for that dryer does it matter for an LG model number DLE7150W
