In the mid 90’s, Anheuser Bush held a Dayton USA arcade machine tournament with linked up sit down cabinets in the St Louis, MO area and competitions were held at local bars across the St Louis Metropolitan area. Initially there were no age restrictions to join so at 13, I convinced my father to rent me a Sega Saturn from my local Blockbuster and rented Daytona USA for a week to master each stage. After winning 1st place across 3 separate bars they later changed the rules and required competitors to be 21 or older to compete. Having a little kid today smack talk you across online play is one thing, but having one beating adults so badly they had to change the rules was oh so satisfying 😂

With all of the racing games Sega released you could easily make a top 20 list.
I would add the original Outrun, Super Monaco GP, Rad Mobile, Outrunners, Sega Rally Championship, F355 Ferrari Challenge and Power Drift.
Others worth mentioning: Namco's Ridge Racer, Atari's Hard Drivin'/ Race Drivin', and the Star Wars Episode One Pod Racer game.

Had a super off road for a couple of years and upgraded the bearings in the steering wheels and man that made it so much better! You could spin it like crazy! ..great game!. A full cockpit cabinet Hard Drivin is still one of my "one day ill get one" games

Awww man, Daytona. I was 10 when that came to the arcades and I remember cheering my dad on as he played this in the 4 player link set up. You could hear that icon theme from the other side of the arcade too

Ralph your channel continues to deliver, and this video ROCKS dude! I too, am a huge arcade racing fan and at 49yrs old, grew up in the 80's playing the likes of Pole Position and OutRun. However, my TRUE love belongs to the arcade racers from the 90's a few from the 2000's, As a result, here's my personal top 10 list of arcade racers....

1)Outrun 2
2)Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6
3)Scud Race
4)Initial D Arcade Stage 8
5)Rave Racer
6)F-Zero AX
7)Daytona 2
8)Daytona USA
9)Sega Rally Championship
10)OutRun

This order might change in the future, but as of right now, after spending years playing those games, I feel comfortable putting those arcade racers as my personal top 10. Regardless, theyyre all fantastic and you can't go wrong with any of them :)

Anyway keep up the great work brother, and long live retro gaming!!

One of my favourite arcade racers in recent times is Sega Race TV, Yu Suzuki's final game. really the last of Sega's over the top "blue skies" arcade racing! (Also Crazy Taxi if that counts here)

But has there ever been a Demolition Derby based arcade game? I'd imagine that would be great fun in arcades, maybe an arcade adaptation of Wreckfest Etc.

Yeah Hydro Thunder! I have it and love it. Funny enough, I don't think I've played Arctic Thunder more than twice. Its not that I didn't care for it, I just rarely saw it. I completely slept on Fast and the Furious, never once tried it until about a year ago at Tornado Terry's arcade. Do I smell a new channel coming? Redneck Ralph?! You compare the pros and cons of single wides and double wides. Mullet hair cut templates. Skoal vs Copenhagen, etc. hahah

Ralph - Sega arcade racer guy here. If you come across an Asphalt 9 Legends Arcade DX 5D (Sim version) do you yourself a favor and play it. It's got the fans, amazing sound package, and the wildest motion seat I've ever seen. One of the of the most fun experiences I've ever had with an arcade racer - we're lucky to have a linked pair of them on the boardwalk here in Wildwood, NJ.

Dude, Daytona definitely deserves to be in the house. This game and Q*Bert are the next two on my list Killer pick up, and it looks to be in amazing shape!

Now this is my kind of list.

I recently got back my LaunchBox emu system from a friend that was barrowing it, and have been pounding some of my favorites, such as Super Monaco GP and Hard Drivin'.. But as fun as these can be playing with an 8bitdo pad, nothing beats the arcade experience with the real controls.. So it's super awesome to see you picked up the real deal!

Sega were the daddy of arcade racing game. That sega rally revo they made in 2008 was ahead of its time. Such a shame nobody bought it. I play it in 4k 60ffps on my pc

Hey Ralph! I'm so glad you put Road Blasters on this list. I have to admit, it's often running on my ALU just because I love it so much, that an S.T.U.N.N Runner. I totally agree with you on these games!!

Great list, thanks for the content. I would add Spy Hunter to my top 10. Console and PC ports are rough. But, the original Spy Hunter on arcade hardware is awesome. It was meant to be a James Bond game, but wasn't due to the lack of securing the license.

I don’t argue about lists because they’re subjective . So many factors go into selecting one’s favorite games (or really anything)…a lot of it has to do with our ages…just a few years can make a huge difference. I was 16 years old when Pole Position was released…by today’s standards it’s archaic, but when released it was a literal game changer. I don’t have a super large arcade collection but there is a Pole Position cockpit right in the middle….huge sentimental value attached to it. I could never have a list of driving games where PP wasn’t at the top.

The OG top 10.

Super Sprint
Off Road
Hard Driving
Pole Position II
Final Lap 3
Super Hang On
Outrun
Daytona
Sega Rally 2
Virtua Racing - and yes the Switch version is amazing. Rebuilt from the ground up in HD with 8 player split screen.

Special mention to GTI Club, Crazy Taxi and the Japanese games like Initial D, Wangan etc..
