Step Back in Time: Walking Through the Ancient Village of Avebury

Показать описание
Step back in time as I take you on a serene walk through the historic village of Avebury, surrounded by one of the largest Neolithic stone circles in the world. Captured on a crisp winter’s day, this peaceful walk offers a glimpse of the beauty and mystery of this ancient site.

With stones dating back over 4,500 years and a rich history of preservation and discovery, Avebury is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and countryside lovers alike. Enjoy the charm of this picturesque village, its tranquil atmosphere, and the freedom to wander among the stones—a unique experience unlike Stonehenge.

Avebury's stone circle is significantly larger than Stonehenge, both in terms of the size of the circle and the number of stones. The stone circle itself originally had around 100 stones, though many have been removed or fallen over time. The site also includes two smaller stone circles and the remnants of a complex of Neolithic structures.

Sit back, relax, and immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Avebury’s ancient landscape.

My son has done research on our Piper ancestors. They were from Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire. Even though they were not from Avebury, I cannot imagine their village looked much different. I very much enjoyed your video because it helped me imagine what my Piper ancestor’s life might have been like and what all they might have seen. I am from the U.S.

Simply astounding, to think of the sheer strength and determination needed to move all that earth and the stones. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in the mid '90's that included a stop at a mound and I'm chagrined that I can't remember which one it was! I do remember it was as fascinating as Avebury. The town of Avebury itself, is beautiful. Loved the crows everywhere! It's -5c, feeling like -12 and tomorrow at 6AM it'll be -14, feeling like -25! We're in for some true January frigidity, this week. How are things in your part of the world, Kevin? Thanks for another lovely walk. My sister and I look forward to them every Sunday.

It would be great to go right back in time to be a bystander and watch these stones being placed and to see how the people lived day to day. We're lucky to still have this history on our doorstep. This villlage is beautiful Kevin. I'm envious! Thank you for taking us back in time. Really great video! Take care and have a great week! ❤

Lovely walk in Averbury with the ancient stones. Much better than stonehenge. I wished I had visited Avebury instead of stonehenge so I could get up close to the stones.

The walk around the village is beautiful. Thanks Kevin. Happy Sunday!

Greetings from Singapore, and very nice thank you. One of my favourite places. The rows of standing stones are impressive, and close up and touchable. Not crowded and not regimented like Stonehenge.

Thank you so much for showing us Avebury. I have often wondered why they haven't re-routed the road that runs through the middle of it. It would be so much nicer and give more of the experience of the standing stones.

This must be, and will be by me, be kept as a classic! You have captured one of the two "Wonders of Wilshire" this Avebury, and the other of course being Stonehenge.
There is so much to wonder and comment on about Avebury, i would bore your followers, Obviously, how on earth were these massive stones found, and moved then erected at Avebury? What was their purpose? As opposed to Stonehenge, Avebury, as you show, has a massIve ditch, or Motte, around the sIte. This looks deep and impressive now, but when first created, was at least twice as need and involved 150, 000 Tonnes of soil to be dug, using nothing more than Deer antlers as picks, and Ox blade bones for shovels!! To me, it is beyond comprehension as using a JCB today would take months if not years, and the last unaswerable question is why?? A fantastic video Kevin, that i will be viewing and relishing over and over again. I thank you!
