Hear me out... we sacrifice people around the stone age when we can build an altar and through RNG it can empower your main character, BUT if your MC dies it resets.

I feel like this could be somewhat solved by not being able to customize the starting character, but having an elaborate mask customization

Permanent transfer to new bodies, sacrificing the old body. That would be unique progression of character.

They should just let you clone the character you create and apply it to the soul mask transfer

I personally would prefer use the mask to suck particular stats from a thrall's soul (hence soul mask), even if you have to play that thrall for a while to increase the needed stats.

I really like your first idea. Having the "chief" provide small passive bonuses while chillin in a throne feels like the best use of the starting character to me.

I just wish we could suck the soul out of barbarians and merge it into our starter character to get the barbarians stats and talents. My biggest problem is not being able to customize barbarians outside of hair cuts... half of the characters look like some rust kid had unsupervised access to character creation and it personally ruins my immersion.

Another option is already partially in the game, just tie upgrades to the created character to the boss nodes on the mask. Have your caps go up by 10 for each boss.

I had no idea the design intention was to ditch the initial character. It is not explained well in the game. No wonder I hit a brick wall in the game.

I dont mind the character swap, but then I want the ability the change the appearance to make it my own. Some of these tribesman look really silly.

I agree with the throne idea. Your main sitting slumped on the floor just feels wrong.

how about a way to merge the talents of your tribe mates into your chieftain with materials and RNG % chance?

It's called soul mask so what about a new mask tree to increase the main characters Stats and you get points for this via sacrificing tribesmen
Additionally you can role for one if the traits of said sacrificed tribesmen once you maxed out the ammount of traits you can achieve whenever you role you can replace one of the old ones by sacrificing resourses and said tribesmen the more you do this the more resourses you spend

You can already increase the max levels of the main character. If they just make initial max to be 60 snd cap later at 90, that would be more than enough to make that character perfectly fine.

Just don't make the main character customizable. Or allow the main character to do tasks.

We as the player are the chieftains NOT our first character, BTW. So our first toon just needs to be able to work!

I liked my customized character model and always hope to find her a replacement, but it didn't bother me at all. The barbarian system is so good that it doesn't bother me at all that my "main" is kinda useless. I just wish that I could give her commands like others to have her work at the base.

I'f my character became a working tribe member I wouldn't care.. But it's kinda dumb they just sit there if you switch to somewhere else..

What if the "main" character was called the Eternal? The tribe's goal is to keep the Eternal alive, like the bonfire. As the Eternal's comfort increases more powerful blessing are unlocked. Part of base building would be pimping out the Eternal's crib.
I think that would make the "main" seem important without changing the game too much.
