A fellow Toyota tech sent me an ECM to do eeprom work on so that it would be able to accept new keys. I take you all along to show you all how I went about doing it. This isn't a step by step overview of how to do eeprom work, more of a general overview. Hope you enjoy!

I’m retired now Thankfully. I started my Locksmith Business close to 40 years ago and Jesus have Things Changed. My son has Taken over the business now and he is just starting to get into the EPROM Part of it. I’m really Happy I Found your Channel and plan on Showing it to him and I know it will be A Lot of Help. This is the first video I’ve seen and I can tell that you seem to know what you’re talking about. 👍

I was able to do this with the 608 just clipping onto the chip. Thanks for sharing what's going on with us!

It’s so cool to see such an “easy” repair can change so many things. Knowledge is power and money.

Excellent video. Lots we can do at the eeprom/board level.
Funny you've mentioned falling down the rabbit hole, it's been 20 years since I did any eeprom work, I've just spent the past 12 hours trying to get up to speed. Lots more learning to do.

That's some in depth repairs right there. Amazing process you have mastered my friend. PJ for the save!

Thank you for the share and details in the video. I am relatively new to this, looking for good videos on EEPROM work, not too many out there, and yours is very informative. Thanks again!

For future reference for those wanting to swap a used ECU. If you locate a numbers matching ECU to the original then you can swap the IC900 chip and it will retain all keys programmed to your original ECU. The IC900 chip may be a different manufacturer but is still functionally the same. Be aware the pads are very weak on these older electronics.

thanks PJ! Good video. I don't have such a great patients level for that stuff. Nice they were able to get it going and get it back on the road! So many good cars are scrapped when they could be sent off to a new owner!

O aye. Very good indeed. Enjoyable watching you do that. I learnt my lesson years ago. So always desolder chips if the board first before a eeprom dump read. As having tried to read in circuit had managed to corrupt it totally and did not get a read at all. The chip was finished. Was the old type separate immo box. With the 24c04 chip. With the 8 legs right through the circuit board. Also found too much heat can destroy the info on the chip as well.

Good job cleaning up that Solder Bridge. Nice equipment you have to work with there....definitely makes life easier when working with these types of repairs/upgrades. As far as the missing screw....I have thousands of screws from Laptop and PC repairs that would have worked and would have fit perfect for that one missing screw.

I think you leave out the most valuable information. That is understanding what is on the rom. What is the next step.

Try not to move the soldering iron across the pads. Always try moving it in the direction of the pads. If you move it side to side you run the risk of detaching the pads. It's fixable but is a huge pain. That ECM is so easy to open, it's a pleasure to watch. I just got a VW one and it is glued so hard you can lift the car with it.
And good job on saving the car! :)
