Ellen DeGeneres used to open every episode of her show by dancing through the crowd, shaking it with complete strangers all in the name of fun. And she would end every episode encouraging her viewers to “Be kind to one another.” It was a mantra that would be tied to her for almost 20 years...but now rumors and allegations of a toxic work environment have shaken up the friendly foundation of Ellen D. What made her turn from the most beloved talk show host ever to becoming the very epitome of irony? Did anything really change or was it all always there? Let’s dance around this topic and find out: WTF Happened to...ELLEN DEGENERES?

TLDR: She turned out to be pretty horrible in a petty Josh Whedon sort of way.

I still have nightmares from seeing the Ellen animatronic robot at Disney World back in the 90's.😵

Saw the questioning title of this video and thought, who gives a F?! If I never see another pic or vid of Ellen Degenerate I will be a happy person.

The big question is what happened to her AFTER the show ended?

Seriously, we've seen no mention of her anywhere since the events in question

I think she was PLENTY embracing her dark side..with a smiley grin, she was treating even her guests really weird sometimes. Like Mariah Carey, i'm not a fan but it was despicable what she did to her when she clearly wasn't ready to announce her pregnancy.

This felt like far more of a tribute BIO than anything really discussing what happened to her.

Taylor, obviously an Ellen fan... this "WTF" episode went soft on the subject

She consistently said "be kind to each other" but she herself didn't listen to her own advice, and paid the price for that.

I don’t care what anyone thinks about Ellen. She had a great run and let’s face it, her show survived as the longest running daytime television series of all time (second behind Oprah). But I respect her for what she’s done hosting the show. And sure, her reputation is tarnished by the scandal, but does anyone care? No, because Hollywood is a bitch. Whatever she’s doing right now after her show ended, I think she’s doing fine.

As a screenwriter, I think Ellen makes for a fairly interesting character study in a fashion. One of the reasons shadow work is so important is because if a person doesn't attempt to integrate their personal shadow into their public persona, they often wind up suppressing it and crumbling the persona from the inside. This I'd say is particularly true for Ellen because she adopted being the 'kind lady' as her persona. One of the great qualities of a lot of standup comedians is they kind of make their dark side into part of their public persona and then use comedy to kind of do shadow work, by constantly storytelling about their past, who they are, etc. No one can really outrun who they are forever; the faster a person can integrate their dark side, the sooner they can live a happier holistic life.

She's the Tweety Bird of real life. It was all an act to fill her ego

There is so much off in this video. It's a tough tightrope to steady on between judgment and compassion when discussing a public figure we know only a few sides of. The thing is that hypocrisy is still hypocrisy. The sheer avalanche of feedback on her hypocrisy was stunning. As bad as James Corden was when he left late night, it pales compared to Ellen. When you try to be fair and conclude that her message was more important than her hypocrisy, you cover up the obvious: she couldn't possibly have started out this bad. How did she get to this point?

You omitted so much about her that contributed to her image: her activism was a part of her persona. She had the public believing she was nice because she was genuinely nice on several levels. Her onion had a lot of layers, and you missed a chance to show why she was not so monochrome in her hypocrisy.

And then you don't discuss what happened to Ellen DeGeneres even though that's the title of your video. She's been off the air for almost a year and a half. If this was any other channel, I'd handwave it as Internet mediocrity. But you are actually a great channel with wonderful, sometimes insightful content. This was just a head scratcher. You can do better.

At a point you can see the anger and hatred in her eyes. I like to think the Finding Nemo and before were her being geniuine though.

I will never understand America... So you guys cancelled this lady 'cause she is angry, and mean sometimes? ... Who isn't? You want her to be happy and kind all the time? Is that even realistic?... She is a human... Even Jesus got angry sometimes...

Not a fan of daytime shows or Hollywood in general. But hers was the best for many years. I’d watch with my mom all the time from the late 00s to the mid 10s.

She combined Hollywood and stars with sprinkling in viral YouTube Internet personalities and stars.
