Alexander could reached for the stars because he stood on the shoulders of a giant. Temujin pulled himself from the dirt to rise as the Sun.

My two favorite conqueror figures in history but it's almost impossible to compare the two since 1, 500 years separate the two and they were in very different regions with very different geopolitical situations. It'd be like comparing Bach to Beethoven or Mozart to Wagner in classical music or Newton to Einstein in physics or Plato to Nietzsche in philosophy, etc.

Alexander was a prince who inherited his father's established army. He was educated by Aristotle. Temujin (the young Genghis) went through extreme hardships as a child when his father was murdered by a rival clan and it took decades for him to just unite the various tribes of what is now Mongolia. Their formative years cannot be compared. It's as opposite as it can be. Alexander was a prodigy with the best tutors. Temujin was an outcast, prisoner, and perhaps a slave who had to rise from the very bottom and was on the verge of being executed or starve to death and had to learn as the years went by through great struggles.

They are both two of the most remarkable men who ever lived but, overall, I agree that Genghis's accomplishments were greater. One area that Genghis outdid Alexander was in his ability to identify talent to serve him - Subotai, Jebe, Muqali, and many other generals and administrators while Alexander, as loved as he was by many of his men, had to deal with assassination plots and mutinies against him. Alexander also seems to have succumbed to hubris and delusions of grandeur in he came to believe that he was son of Zeus (egged on by his mother) as well as alcoholism. Genghis, in contrast, very much had iron grip control over himself and his empire. As pointed out, Genghis's empire actually doubled in size after his death, so the momentum Genghis had put in motion was much greater - not even comparable - as Alexander's empire immediately fell apart upon his death.

The stories of both Alexander and Genghis could not be made up. It'd be too fantastic for even today's most outlandish movies but, if I had to choose between the two, Genghis gets my vote as the greater one.

Had Alexander caught his mistake sooner and dropped his emotions and pride his empire would STILL be around today but unfortunately he failed miserably and his ppl suffered tremendously

Different time periods. Different tactics. That's like saying if the Khan were to go up against Napoleon. Guns vs. archers(tactics not tech). Alexander used phalanx and stone slingers. Khan used archers and mostly horseback. The Khan also had triple the fighting force Alexander did. Alexander lived to 33. Ghangis Khan lived into his 60s. Double the life of Alexander. The Khan had another 30 years to expand his empire. Alexander had but 13. So compare both their first 13 years...

1st of all land Area comparison is false.
That is not what G.H is what the Mongols at their peak conquered.

Its like one says Julius Ceasar conquered the M.East....because Rome after 200years did.

Just my 2 cents but alexander fought and won every battle against rivals who were worthy opponents. Temujin fought mostly nobody's at the time. Alexander won with strategy while Temujin won with superior numbers. If you placed the two against each other with equal numbers and tech there's no doubt Alexander would have decimated the Mongols.

The Horse archers would have made a fine mess of the Macedonians would have been a very short battle and Alexander the GREAT would have been no more . This is an idiotic, no Brainerd comparison. Tengri biz Menem

Please do not compare disparate cases! Alexander was very educated, he was taught by Aristotle, philosophy, logic and many other sciences. At a very young age he managed to conquer the largest empire of the time which possessed a very large army, with the least possible losses in very adverse geographical locations! In Egypt they accepted him as a liberator, they worshiped him as God, he became Pharaoh! He founded Alexandria, which became the city of admirable culture, a center of culture where all sciences flourished, the library of Alexandria was created! (From his successors, but this was Alexander's wish) He respected the people he conquered, he gave them the freedom to believe in their religion and observe their customs, he tried to become one with them! Genghis Khan, on the contrary, was much, much later in history, he was also much older, yes he created a huge empire, but he had to deal with peoples of the steppe, without terrible natural obstacles. He used unspeakable violence, cruel and bloodthirsty, a terror to all!! He went down in history as a great "butcher"! If he left any "positive" mark on history, it could not be compared to that left by Alexander, who, beyond his military genius, left a huge cultural heritage whose imprint was catalytic in the civilization of the East and West. The Hellenistic period was a flourishing period of the arts, sciences and letters for centuries after his death! He was worshiped as a God and still his echo holds well as a conqueror who was not hated, there are still tribes who feel proud, because they consider themselves the descendants of Alexander's soldiers (because he encouraged mixed marriages) . So maybe
Genghis Khan would have defeated Alexander, however, the quality difference is what counts!
But for sure if the two had met at the same time that Alexander was conquering the world, Genghis Khan would have been out of luck!

Alexander is the greatest!
