Well Porus was not defeated. As said, Indian Kings had immense war experience. Even if Alexander got past Porus, Magadha empire would have crushed him in mainland India.

It was only the Greeks who reported that Alexander won the battle of Hydaspes. Indians have not even bothered to take account of it. More like a flea bite. Alexander was wounded and defeated and ran back to his homeland but died in the way.

Just a curiosity, the only evidence of the battle of Hydaspes is found in Greek scriptures. Considering Indians have a wide history of keeping written records... It's just too weird. Also it is said that Alexander left Porus alive despite winning and returned back home. Which is also super weird considering his left his home land only to win India after hearing of its riches. The man who never left his opponent alive suddenly decided to leave an Indian king alive and return. Another thing is that the habit of leaving the opponent king alive even after winning the war is something that Indian rulers did. A prime example is that Mohammad Gohri was pardoned many times even when he lost the war. This begs the question, did Alexander really win or King Porus did and it's considered such a minor event that no history exists of that battle in India. Whereas it is quite famous in Greece.

Puru won the war and that's why Alexander was left alive and he realized that he had reached his limit so he left Purus kingdom dejected and mostly killed by his generals. If he had come a little he would have been slaughtered by Emperor Chandraguputa.

Actually, after alexander's mission to conquer the world; he conquered some parts of egypt and west asia. When he wanted to march further eastwards; his soldiers refused as they were afraid of the Indian ruler's army

Lot of Indian guys like to claim that Alexander couldn’t beat the Indian empire, fact is Alexander’s soldiers were already homesick and battle weary by the time they reached India and they still managed to succeed in defeating one dynasty, I don’t believe there was an army on earth capable of defeating the Macedonians at this time (much like genghis khans forces in his time).
