If only there was an advent calendar that could count down each step towards post-capitalism.

On work: I have a non-essential job in political communication (advertising adjacent at least). I do think my work benefits society, as my job is to educate people about my party's policy in easily digestible ways. Of course you could also say that I am an evil propagandist. Regardless of the ethics of my work, it's fairly obvious why my job exists, right? Partys compete in elections and to run an election campaign you need people like me. So the question is: How do you want to get rid of non-essential jobs, when there is an obvious (in my eyes not removable) demand for them like in this case? I am asking without any malice over being called non-essential. Genuinely curious here.

there was one contradiction here that did not sit right with me, you wish we got rid of non-essential jobs, but then wish people would be able to enjoy art, although the resources, tools and labor required to produce that art would means jobs that would not produce anything essential to human survival.
i love art but i don't see how it's existance is compatible with a world that would not produce it

Guys, the amount of economic output per unit of energy expended (and per unit of air pollution created) has *already been decreasing continously for decades*. Similarly, large tracts of developed countries, like the US or Germany, actually have had large percent increases in forestation, since as capitalism works along then capital (houses, factories) are already built-up and can be used for decades and also people and companies get better at producing more from less.

The degrowth agenda is just a thinly-veiled attempt to rile up & scare young people into supporting authoritarian seizures of large parts of the economy. In other words, it's actually a kind of anti-human communism operating under the guise of ecological concern.

Again, this guy does not understand economics, or science, or how technology advances. He's just a wacky cult leader who hates humans. Do not trust these people.
