As long as the profit motive exists there will be no change. Only marketing on the appearance of change. The market doesn’t incentivize humanity’s survival

indeed there needs to be more pressure from consumers on brands - they’ll do more if they see this as a material threat to their revenue and bottom line

I’m finally at the stage where I’d rather read the original report than listen to someone reacting and talking about it. Thanks for actually linking it, I’m a scientific researcher and primary reports and papers are king in my world.

The statement from Tom Ford around eight minutes, is he serious? That could be straight from The Onion 😲

Found your channel recently and really enjoyed getting up to date with these issues in the industry with your video format. I care a lot about fashion but I get quite fatigued of a lot of influencers who despite having the resources to talk about this continue to support unsustainable practices.

Well done video. We are VERY far from where we need to be in terms of sustainability, and I think only actual legislation will change things. For now, I'll do what I can and vote with my wallet. I buy mostly secondhand anyway, but I've made a point about a year ago to even only buy secondhand from brands that are doing the damn work. And no synthetics!!

Such sluggish progress on sustainability in the fashion industry can seem disheartening (and it still is) but it was cool to hear what we could do about it. I used the email template linked and already got 18 stock reply type emails. I’m excited to follow up and hopefully put pressure on these higher-ups to make change.

correct me if I'm wrong. max mara is a brand that's very highly regarded in the sewing community, they're like the staple when it comes to clothes' quality. I'd guess they separate themselves from the brands that chase sustainability as a "trend" to appease the wider public. but it's embarrassing as a luxury brand to not even disclose their workers' conditions. I guess it's not so easy to seem different from all the "commoners"'s brands if the clothes are made by the hands of the same workers.
i hate luxury brands, I truly do. in many cases they're just fast-fashion brands with different marketing, so they can pocket a bigger percentage of the profit.

on a different note, do you know blogilates?

This is enough to convince me to do a no buy in august 😂 Tom Ford ‘timeless’ is he serious. Also MaxMara isn’t just unsustainable they also use Fur in their products, think foxes mink and raccoon dogs aka cruelty to animals. I took part in a big anti-fur consumer campaign, but they ignored our efforts

maaan at this point idk if brands are stupid enough not knowing how to go towards sustainability. or they actually acknowledge and have the resources, but pretend they're stupid 🙃 those big brands can make a difference... it goes both ways. if company do not overproduce, consumer less likely to purchase new stuff. and also everything is 'one time used' only nowadays, it's a shame we couldn't get the quality that we had like in the 70s-early 2000s. pretty sure anything before 2010 was decent

I literally cringed when I saw the stat about the use of fossil fuels, eeek! I get so frustrated when I see people promote polyester, mylon, etc as "green", its anything but. More brainwashing by companies. 😢

I have a curious question as you talk about sustainability. What products do you use to wash your garment? Do you do anything sustainable or different? Anything to make your clothes feel nice and last longer?
