Guys, I get that he is more of an Anti-hero rather than a plain old villain or hero. Thanks for letting me know!

I couldn't think of that term while making the video. I just decided to put "villain" rather than "morally unusual protagonist" because villain has a nice ring to it and it grabs the eyes of viewers; it also encourages them to comment corrections ;)

What you fail to see is that Paul sees that the jihad is inevitable, and there are even fewer ways for humanity to survive the coming threats past that. So Paul decides he HAS to use his abilities to control his body and mind to become the leader of prophecy and take control of the people. All charismatic dictators feel they're the only ones capable of the job, it's just that in this case due to his prescience he might not be wrong to do so. "Boy might not be wrong, but he sho ain't right"-me.

The hard thing about saying that dune is a warning about charismatic leaders.. is that the fremen belive he is the lisan al gaib the moment he sets foot on arakkis.. because the way was already paved for him.. so its not like he had to do much to win the fremen over.. other than state he was the voice from the outer worlds.

There is two possibilities that are inevitable in Dune. Either billions of lives die sadistically as possible by the hands of Harokenens. Or billions of people die fighting the Holy War. Take it as you like.

Yeah it’s hard not to follow Jesus when he’s actually Jesus

Paul is not a villain. He is fulfilling his role in the universe.

If you ever recall, in Dune part I he kept getting visions and in one of the them exclusively was emphasizing to Paul that, he was afraid he’s gonna become someone that he doesn’t want to become, especially in Dune part 2 he mentions the same thing when he needed to go South only to drink the water of life in order to see the future. Now that he took and being the most notorious leader Lisan Al Gaib, we are noticing the true colors, and that brings my curiosity on how part III is gonna play out.

This is why the book is a masterpiece. In a vision he sees that even if he doesn’t take up the mantle and lees the freemon they will still have a jihad and that it will be more violent. So he takes it up not just for his ends but to try and curb the death toll. Film is hard at portraying the fine details of a novel this complex

I have a strong feeling that ya'll say this only because you heard other people say it and you feel so smart and cool that you realized the enlightened hard truth while everyone else are normies who love Paul as a hero. "Ohh no no, you don't, understand *pAuL iS a ViLlaiN!!"* Yeah, you're so enlightened, genius.
No, it's actually a wrong thing to say. He is an exemplary antihero. The truth is far more complicated than "Paul is a villain".

I saw this picture on X which I regret not downloading, of a guy who actually stood up in the theater and saluted at Paul Atreides when he screams, "Long live the fighters!"

Only until I watched the movie then I realized how hilarious the guy actually is.

Nobody gets this scene. Paul is not manipulating the Fremen. He IS the prophesied savior and he leads them to salvation. Herbert had to write an entire second novel because he accidentally wrote the story of an actual messiah instead of a guy pretending to be a messianic figure.

Frank doesn’t do a good job in the book because Paul’s conflicted. The entire time he’s doing everything in his power to prevent the future his saw, the jihad. Yet every move pushes him closer no matter what changes he makes to change his visions. Also, if Paul didn’t attack the Atrades would be fully wiped out, firemen would be enslaved still. Dude was forced on a path not of his choosing. Tried to live for love but knew if he followed that path his wife child and new family would die. So yeah Frank did an absolute SHIT job writing Paul as a villain or even a bad person.

Or maybe it’s showing that some times it’s ok to fight back. If Paul’s a “Villain” then I don’t want to know what a hood guy looks like to you. Probably something no more threatening than Barney the dinosaur.
