Those old Volvo lights come back to life very nicely with a good wet sanding (P800 -> P1200 -> P2000 -> P3000 -> P4000) and a polish. Just recently did this to a totally hazed 740 tail light and it now looks like a million dollars.

Wow! NIce job! Looks like they are available for wagons also! Great tip! Thanks @Mortimer Galdbreath! And thanks to volvo engineers from the past! 😀

Nice job. It’s amazing that a part like this can be easily replaced without throwing everything else away. It’s the opposite to what happens with modern cars.

I'm happy that it worked out for you! I got tired of wrestling with the failure-prone design of the circuit card in the tail lights and rewired them with actual wires soldered to the sockets. Haven't had an issue since. Cheers!

It's awesome how easy it is to get 240 parts

Sledge, it is a good thing that it stands out because the tester WILL notice that the lens has been replaced. My XC90 just keeps on going...

changing the faded/cracked taillights was the first thing i did when i got my 940. its the small things that make a big difference 👌

Love your make do and mend approach. Being a full time unpaid carer, any tips, shortcuts, hacks, are most welcome, to keep my 1991 Volvo estate on the road. Your time and effort in producing these videos is much appreciated. When I'm in a position to become a patrion, both you and Whiteland Restoration's are at the top of my list. Cheers Steve.

gotta love an easy fix like that. I recently had my reverse switch go out on my transmission after I replaced the clutch and I'm regretting not replacing it while I had the transmission pulled

nice work, from the Swede Memories workshop downunder. :)

Honestly, I really like the "standout" repairs on older Volvo's. Cars that get used will get damaged & rusted. I think it's patina to have the repairs show, it marks the car as a driver and not one that sits in the barn for 50 years.

Great fix fella and some T-cut or slightly firmer rubbing compound would definitely make those look somewhat brighter for the time being!

The rear lights will respond to being buffed like you need to do wi try plastic headlamps…..nice job though mate…

The 240 wagon/estate oddly had this same issue. 'Dunno if the availability of the lens came about due to this issue or I it was available from the very first two iterations of the lenses on the 240.

The 140 series did not have this issue, instead the cemented sections get fragile with age. My left side rear lens snapped in half several years ago when it tumbled off the car as I switched over to LEDS one Saturday.

Hi, I don't wish to be pedantic, was the red lower corner bulb working on the side you repaired (06:21) ?
Love your motor, still searching for a 240 GLT 😊
