The Journal of the American Chemical Society presents interviews with accomplished scientists in chemistry.
In this interview, Editor-in-Chief Professor Erick Carreira speaks with Professor Vivian W.W. Yam of The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Professor Yam leads a research group working on projects related to the control of excited states, nanostructures and functions through discovery, molecular design and supramolecular assembly of novel classes of chromophoric and luminescent metal complexes and clusters. The group also studies excited state properties and dynamics as well as their structure-property relationships to achieve the design of metal-based molecular and nano-assembled functional materials for sensing, imaging, organic optoelectronics and energy research.
Watch our interview to learn about Professor Yam’s inspiring journey from her early fascination with the wonders of chemistry to becoming a global leader in the field. Learn about her groundbreaking work in inorganic and organometallic chemistry, her vision of chemistry as a central science connecting diverse disciplines, and her commitment to inclusivity in the scientific community. Hear her advice for young chemists and discover the secrets behind her success, as well as the role of chemistry in building global connections and friendships.
