I've known about this trick for a while but wouldn't use it because I had to go from twig ->wood->stone.
Never thought to drop wood out of my inventory. Sometimes the answer is right there. Thanks for the tip.

KCMO introduced this years ago. I've always pressed both mouse buttons down at the same time, which does the same thing. If you're going for a speed record I think you could shave a couple of seconds by standing in the middle of the two square tiles, and with default lookatradius you should be able to hit every foundation, ceiling and wall, apart from the inner airlock.

I wondered how to do this when I began watching aloneintokyo's videos. At first I thought he was simply upgrading REALLY fast to the point where the upgrade menu doesn't have time to appear but this video clearly shows that isn't the case. Thanks!

Im gonna be honest, Ive known about the cursor automatically going onto the next available material, but my slow brain didnt think to just take out the wood out of my inventory so i wouldnt have to upgrade to wood first

I never knew this so I tried it and it worked. Thought it was amazing but in the process of trying it out several times, I learned you don't even need to pull up the wheel first. Just start holding left click with the hammer and press right click to insta upgrade. My life is changed.
