Amazon AWS EC2 Free Tier + Paid Instances Account How To Cancel ALL Services

In this video I show how to safely cancel your AWS account including how to find and kill all EC2 instances and EBS volumes in ALL regions which is not obvious or simple with AWS. Note that I advise in the video to search for EBS volumes and this is because EBS volumes that are created after the instance will NOT be deleted with the instance (eg. if you added more storage/secondary volumes to your EC2 VM).

This is especially important to do if you have a free-tier account which expires after a year (aside from any ALWAYS free services). With EC2 you have to be careful as it is very easy to exceed your free-tier limits and it is in theory possible to have an unlimited bill for a single EC2 instance.

It's critical to do this properly as closing your AWS account without terminating all billable services will result in perpetual billing.

I closed the account last year December and here come March of 2024 with a charges of $93.32 monthly and the final slapped is this month charges $150.47. I do really appreciate this dude 👏👏👏

Somehow I have like literally hundreds of resources???? I don't understand why and I am absolutely freaking out. I literally just started an EC2 instance and an RDS instance last year to follow some tutorial. I am in hell. I don't know where any of this came from. Your tutorial was helpful to find these and you're a lifesaver in that respect but oh my god how do I bulk terminate??

I am a student and I was just trying to find an online database hoster with MySQL and it said AWS does this. I created an account and selected the free tier (I don't remember putting my card info on the account but maybe it was there already)

I then used it once and couldnt make it work so I deleted the database and stopped using it.

3 months later, I see 50 quid taken out my bank for something I don't use and even if I did, I had selected the free tier.

How tf is this legal theres no obvious was to contact them either to get my money back. I'm literally in secondary school I can't be paying £50 every month for something I don't use!

Beware of AWS free offers; even after cancelling all services that generate charges, they make irregular charges, the resolution of disputes takes a long time. Personally I would not put my clients in the hands of AWS. Even when they admit you were charged without any reason, they take a lot of time to refund your money. After 4 months I´m still waiting a refund. Anyway they will still mistakenly charging you, every month. My solution was to block my Debit Card, and sue my bank for not protecting me against this forementioned mistakes. My bank charges me for a insurance every month.

I wonder If this is the way Jeff Bezos makes money to travel to the extratosphere.

My free trial account is about to expire, it says i don't have any active EC2 instances running but there are lot of default Security groups, VPC, DHCPOptions, NetworkAcl etc which are under my resources....and i don't recall creating these either.
Do i have to terminate all of the default stuff as well????

Hi, my account got hacked and I have been trying to delete IAM role and Granted License, but AWS's steps are no help. I can't figure out how to deactivate this granted license which makes the role uneditable/Deletable.
