The probability that the result is 5 is 1/6. An odd number is 3/6

This is not two mutually exclusive events, so yes.

P(A)= To get number 5, P(B)=To get odd number, P(A intersecrion B)= 1/6(Number 5). Now, P(AUB) = 1/6+3/6-1/6= 1/2

"An odd number" can be deconstructed into "1 or 3 or 5" so really the question is about the probability of it being "5 or 1 or 3 or 5" since "5 or 5" is just redundant the entire problem simplifies down to "any odd number"

Actually there is more logic, if you already studied probaility you would see that:
P(event A or event B)=P(A)+P(B)-P(A intersecting B).
In other words: 3/6 (rolling odd number) +1/6 (rolling 5)-1/6 (rolling odd number and a 5)
So basically if this way any other question he probably would have done this wrong

Answer is we dont know. We have not had the die declared fair, nor have we had the number of faces declared.

This isn’t even tricky, this is just a standard question about 1d6. Piss easy.

The question is weird, 5 or an odd number?

nopetuber

Question cannot be solved because the task doesn't specify how many sides the die has.

People, imagine this:
When you roll a fair dice, what is the probability that the number you rolled is positive or less than 7?
From your logic, the first event that is the number being positive, has a probability of 6/6, then the second event has the probability of 6/6 as well.
Will you conclude the answer would then be 6/6 + 6/6 = 2? But we all know that probability ranges from 0 to 1, 2 is impossible.

It’s like you were asking two different questions. The odd it is five is one in six. The odd that it is an odd number is one in two.

Man I thought we were rolling for initiative. Forget it I cast Magic missile. Thank you for help ing with my math

But it was never stated how many sides the die has?

the question is wrongly formulated, please re-formulate it and then re-publish your video, it is so misleading and harmful

B option because 1, 3, 5 are odd numbers so, possible outcome upon total outcomes possible

Its 2/3 becuase the probablitity to roll 5 is 1/6, and an odd number, (including 5) is 1/2, then doing 1/6 + 1/2, you get 4/6 which can be simplified to 2/3

And this is why you need to read the question. The answer is 2/3.
5 OR an odd number
1/6 + 3/6 = 4/6 = 2/3

And this, kids, is why math can't handle natural language.

This question flouts Grice's maxims.
