My 2006 hilux 1KD ftv euro 3, is very reliable it’s done 600, 000kms on the original injectors and the oil pickup is as clean as possible no buildup what So ever, I can 100% recommend a pre 2007 euro 3 1KD hilux, it does not have the cracking piston issue like in the later models and the injectors (while a bit knocky on very cold mornings) are fine in my experience.

Oil pickup is simple maintenance and as long as you change seats every 40k its fine, cracked pistons are caused by towing, chips and tunes and poor injectors, changing the scv from the short body to long body will solve that issue

Had mine since 2013, no problems, never herd of anybody doing a diff, only problems with modified ones, agree early injectors were doggy.

I've got my one from new for 10 years already and have no problems at all. Just do good, regular service.

I am an expat and live in Indonesia, bought mine new in 2016 it leads a tough life. Service it regularly at the Toyota Dealership and it still runs like new in 2025.

Not sure where this bloke is getting his info from maybe it’s based on seeing hilux’s that have been flogged to death by poor maintenance. The 3.0 1KD is a pretty good engine which is why there are still plenty of them on the road the engine is known to do upwards 600k but it’s down to maintenance and how you drive it.

The injectors were never an issue it was a design fault with weak pistons which would crack under high temps usually caused by towing or improper tuning this however seems to be less of an issue with later model n70s and it’s sort of luck if the draw not all suffer from this issue majority don’t.

As for the 2tr-fe 2.7 petrol it was a far cry from the practically bulletproof 3rz in the previous generation and it was only offered in 2wd variants they aren’t bad motors great engine for city runabouts for tradies and fleet buyers.

Now the 4.0 v6 petrol it was far from bulletproof as you describe it had issues with head gaskets blowing in the earlier models and it’s extremely sensitive to oil changes if you miss a service more than likely it’ll start causing you issues other than that they were pretty good aside from drinking more than an islander. 14L/100km is pitiful which is why they never sold well.

Otherwise decent video mate

I’m sorry but these issues mentioned are purely down to poor maintenance. It doesn’t matter how well something is engineered, you HAVE to maintain them.

It all boils down to regular maintenance.

Ok this has officially scared me off them. Sounds like they are absolute shit boxes. Toyota really has gone to shit! What a shame.
