The hybrid high voltage wires are usually orange and it can be disconnected from the rear of the car underneath the back seat usually. It just unplugs from the battery.

I took Scotty’s advice long ago and bought a 1965 Ford mustang beautiful Wimbledon white with a 289 automatic tranny. Parts are readily available and very affordable. Very easy to maintain and fun as hell to drive! Thank you Scotty🇺🇸👍🏻

-hybrid cars have a quick disconnect that disconnects the battery from the rest of the car so any maintenance can be done safely. I've replaced a complete battery pack for one and it was a cinch.

Scotty: “My advice, is that on your particular hybrid car, find out which colour thick wires are the high voltage ones, AND STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THEM AS POSSIBLE!!!” 🤣🤣

“Find which ones are the high voltage ones and stay away from them as far as possible!” Although serious, it made me laugh 😂

My grandpa once needed to do some electrical work on an old 90s Taurus, around 2010. I figured he'd fire up his home computer, and do some web surfing.

Nope! He goes down to a local hardware store, and buys this manual as big as a phone book specifically for his model of car. He must've figured it out, because his car ran "so much f*ing better".

I took a glance through it a while later, and it seemed to have every detail about the car from how to change the plugs and oil, to how to completely remove the engine from the car!

Really makes you wonder what home car repair is going to be like once electric cars become more popular.

That is why I got a 6 year warranty on the batteries on the hybrid! 52 miles to a gallon and 600 miles to a tank of gas is hard to beat!

I got a 2012 Prius with 267k miles and it’s still runs like new. I drove it all fr the show room floor back in MAY of 2012 and it’s still in its original hybrid battery, original engine, and original transmission, so I would not be worried about buying a hybrid Toyota vehicle and keeping it “forever” especially the new ones since every little kink has been worked out and perfected

That's about right. Since the other half so rarely needs anyone's grubby mitts on em.
My 1st experience buying brand new was the 1st hybrid release of the Ford fusion, 2013. Thoroughly amazed the consistent efficiency.

All high voltage stuff on cars is orange. Don't touch orange wires. You can actually repair a Prius battery on your own, the battery cover is held by special orange clips that can only be opened by the tool on the tip of the battery kill switch. You cannot get inside the battery while the wires are live, because the kill switch is in your hand and therefore not inserted into the battery. The battery is 200V DC which is painful but not fatal with dry hands (and even then you'd need to do something dumb like put the kill switch back in while the high voltage wiring is exposed).

Scotty... you'll need this thousand dollar tool
Me... goes to lowes and buys a volt meter for $125

If you can maintain and fix your traditional gas vehicles, then those savings far exceed the gas savings you get from buying a hybrid. But if you always delegate vehicle maintenance to others, then hybrids are a good value. Especially if they get the mpg of a Prius.
