USB has changed a lot, especially in the last few years. From USB 1.0 in 1996 to the rise of USB-C in recent years, we go over it all in this video. It all sounds a bit crazy, but it will make sense by the end.

+1 NO gimmicks. NO annoying animations or pictures popping up here and there. NO exaggerated and distracting video editing. Finally, just a person cleanly delivering a speech with just the right amount of textual information to clear up a confusing subject that was often marketed to be way more complex than it should be.

Elias,
Thank you for this video. Not being much of a techie, I did not keep up with the evolution of USB. But, with the purchase of some new devices, I needed to better understand this and dived into the USB muddle. Your video helped a lot. Your emphasis on distinguishing form factor vs. speed is very much needed.

If you make another version of this, my one suggestion relates to terminology. Often the term connector is used to describe what is plugged in and what something is plugged into. I found it much clearer when the terms plug and receptacle are used. Also, I think the USB4/USB-C/Thunderbolt thing needs more explanation since this seems to be the way everything is headed. Thanks again for you work.

this video is amazing, it deserves more views. the only problem I had was the music, it was very obvious when it looped and distracting.

Nice vid brother...beautiful explanations. I have one question: Why do usb cables have different form factors at each end? ....Because I only see the recent MacBook laptops have same form factors on both ends of the cable (i.e. usb c at both ends). If only the speed of charging and data transfer rates change for each iteration of usb (... 1.0, 2.0, 3.0) then why not have a standard form factor for each iteration?

Nice video! Doesn’t explain 1) A and B and 2) reason for the two “small” firm factors (mini and micro)

Since there are so many serial busses, maybe we should take out the “Universal” …..
