Water Filtration Equipment for a Coastal Hunt (How To) with Randy Newberg

In this video Randy Newberg explains the equipment he uses for filter water in his Alaska black bear camp. This is similar to the equipment used when hunting with larger groups in any environment, though some often forget the importance of water location and high volume filtration when on a coastal hunt.

Space and weight is always a factor on a backpack or fly-in hunt. In most instances, a gravity flow basecamp filter will be your best option. The Katadyn Base Camp is as small and light as a pump filter and can do far more volume in a lot less time than a pump filter.

Also useful is a Katadayn B-Free bladder with the built in filter in the water dispenser. This is easy, convenient, and eliminates the need to carry your water filtration system with you when hiking long distances.

Thanks Randy!!! Because of your video my wife is finally on board with filtering water. We have been hauling cases and cases of bottled water while we had the crystal clear Rio Blanco river(in colorado) 20ft from the camp. Absolutely a game changer!!!no more trips to town via 3 mile 4wheeler ride to truck then 12 miles to town in truck.hours of wasted time saved!!!ordered mine soon as she watched video. Now if I could just talk her into some Sitka gear lol!!!Thanks again

Should always dry outside of bag when dipping into water and then flush valve and outside of bag with first fresh water out of bag to prevent cross contamination

I do like that system. I often just drink straight from good mountain creeks and rivers but filter stagnant or questionable stuff.

Well you can drink the sea water you just have to pack in a small still and distill the water but that's a bit extreme

Hooboo, I haven't heard of that one water borne disease or bacteria. Is it contagious as well???

I actually just bought the 10l base camp a couple weeks ago. How do you keep the filter from getting too cold at night during winter time? Do you just take it out, dry it off and put it in your sleeping bag?

Pretty sure it's pronounced Kah-tah-din, like Mt. Katahdin in Maine. But hey, still works either way. Love the informational how-to videos, keep them coming
