Hey Chaps! Which Phone do you think won??

Straight away, I'm so glad you mentioned how it's easy to cherry pick pictures to make one camera look better. That's such an important point. I've seen at least a dozen camera comparisons with the new iPhone; they are against the previous gen iPhone, S23 and Pixel 7 Pro mostly. Some channels have the iPhone winning big, and show a big improvement over the previous gen iPhone. Some show almost no difference between the previous gen iPhone and the new one (and I'm referring to the 15 Pro Max vs 14 Pro Max), and show that the S23 does better in most scenarios. I can't stand when a reviewer looks at the edge of a photo and says it is more blurred than the edge of the same photo from a different phone but does not mention the focus point; obviously if you're focusing on a closer subject there will be natural blur in the background compared to focusing on something that is further away, in which case everything will be in focus and sharper. Anyway, sorry for the tangent....just wanted to appreciate your comment since I have not heard anyone else mention that, and that has bugged me throughout the comparisons i have watched.

I’m going to praise both smartphone makers for continuing to compete in the still/video camera race. Having some competition is really making a difference for all of us consumers.

I am a Samsung person but can definitely say Apple has upped their game in photos department as well.

For me, skin tones are very important. I really like how Pixel Phones handle skin tones.

S23 for me, the day is almost equivalent but the night and zoom just change the game for me

One thing Apple got little credit for is, going from 12mp to 24mp required less 'pixel binning, ' which means the effective size of the pixel capturing light is cut by half. Apple was able to make lower light photos actually look better in 24mp, with the ability to capture more light through the sensor, which is pretty cool (since now you have a sharper photo and more detail -- and that doesn't take up too much storage).

I have the iPhone 15 pro max, and thus far I’m not very impressed with the camera. It’s okay, but not as spectacular as I was expecting. Was taking some candid shots at a wedding and mostly all were not useable photos. Honestly find 5x range isn’t very common to use and would prefer to have better optical quality in that 3x-5x range. They screwed up not having a 3x lens in the pro max. For video it’s pretty good, just not for photos which is 90% of my use.

I have to say, the S23 Ultra camera quality with the One UI 6 Android 14 beta is solid. I know you won't do a camera comparison with a beta, but it would be cool to see. When the public Android 14 release comes out later this month you should revisit the comparison 😀

If you’ve got children, pets or similarly moving subjects just go with the iPhone. The slightest bit of movement turns your precious moment into dog food on the Samsung thanks to that shutter lag. How/why they haven’t fixed that over the generations of Galaxy phones is mystery to me.

Mate, I also think the iPhone 15 pro max is better for taking video. As for taking photos, it's a bit difficult to choose. By the way, do you have any overheating problem with the iPhone?

For me, I think iPhone wins overall, sound quality sounds away better, colours are legit and taking burst shots is faster than the S23 Ultra, but in night mode there is some lens glare. Also this is my honest opinion, not to be judged

Hi Tom!
Did you shoot on 200mpx on the S23?
I have it, and the quality of your pics is nowhere near what I have achieved with this phone...

iPhone video looks like you have a permanent sunburn on your forehead.

For me..a 7 pro user.. The s23 better.... Apart from the occasional milky over exposure.. Solved by turning down the exposure.. Touch and hold the screen and reduce it slightly... However great comparison. But cameras are pretty much equal.. What about the heating and the battery.. That is s big turn off for me

you're a great reviewer, i've been following you for years. This vidéo is once again very well done, im a bit surprised how you keep improving, although you said now you work as a team 👌

The image quality is so close between these two that you can safely base your choice on your brand/software preference and be sure you'd end up with a great camera phone. Of the two, I'd pick the Samsung since I like the more versatile camera system (that 10x zoom is crazy, and Samsung is rumored to lose it in favor of a 5x on the S24 Ultra, so get it while you can!) and I much prefer Android to iOS.

Hi, thank you for a great comparison! Regarding the Software updates on a Galaxy, I experienced similar problem with my S22 Ultra when I bought it second hand. It had an old security update and it could not update automatically. I solved it with installing some of the Samsung app - I think it was Smart Switch on my PC. And then I connected the phone via cable to the PC, and I updated it with that app. Since then, the updates are happening automatically again.
